Earlier, it was announced that Kurt Russell was cast as Star-Lord's dad. At SDCC, it was announced who his father was. Ego, the Living Planet. Edited to add spoiler warning ~ Matt

In the SDCC trailer, he explains that he built himself a human body to experience what it was like to be human. I am still hoping to see Kurt Russell's face on a planet at some point.

Y'know, if he grows his beard and moustache out like he did for Bone Tomahawk...

I'm still so irritated and annoyed at the first movie that it will take my wife quite a bit of persuading to get me to go to this one.
She loved the first GotG, and she'll probably get her way - she always does - but wow, was it hard for me to change my entire perception of the Guardians. And Gamora. And Drax. And the Nova Corps. And- oh, hell, it just enraged me. Even Yondu bothered me.
The movie made a metric crap ton of money, so I don't expect anyone else felt as I did... this is what being a silver age fogey is.

The first Guardians of the Galaxy is probably my favorite super hero movie of all time. Nearly perfect in execution in every cinematic form.
Now, that Ego the living planet is in the second film, I'm even more stoked. If Ego can make it onto the big screen, then maybe MODOK can as well.

Benny, we know that a character in the film will be "Ego," but that doesn't necessarily mean what we will get will be Ego any more than Arnim Zola or Baron Zemo were like their comic book counterparts. It would be awesome to see a film version like the comic book but I am not counting on it.

I am. I don't think James Gunn is afraid to "go there".
I think Ego was picked just so they could "go there".

Consider Youndu, Gamora, and Nova from the first GotG, and then tell me how closely they're going to cleave to the idea of Ego the Living Planet.
Hell, it might be someone in a planet sized vehicle sitting in a huge command chair, directing it through space.

Gamora's sensuality was toned down, but I thought she was otherwise close to the modern comics. Yondu is getting a fin in this one, even if it is artificial. Ego wasn't explicitly described as a living planet, but he does state that he was a cosmic being that crafted a human body for himself.

James Gunn gave us this....
and this....
So I am expecting to see Ego realized in his 'natural' state at some point during the movie. It might be brief...but I'm betting it will happen.
You don't take on a character like Ego and leave him in the state of Kurt Russell's human form. That would be like having Galactus....and making him a cloud or something! And since James Gunn knows how THAT turned out, I'm betting he won't punk out here.

Here's hoping the AWESOME MIX, VOL. 2 soundtrack features some of these favorite tracks of mine (maybe with some '80s tunes this time around?):
-Turn to Stone (ELO) -Jailbreak (AC/DC) -Shambala (Three Dog Night) -Break My Stride (Matthew Wilder) -Can You Feel It (The Jacksons) -Mickey (Toni Basil) -Love Is Like Oxygen (Sweet) -Heart of Glass (Blondie) -Every 1's a Winner (Hot Chocolate) -I Was Made for Lovin' You (KISS) -I Love You (Climax Blues Band) -Black Betty (Ram Jam)
Put any one of those into the mix, and I'll be happy!

(I'm kind of surprised, after at least 8 years worth of Marvel Studios films, that KISS has yet to make an appearance on any soundtrack... maybe for their rebooted HOWARD THE DUCK, someday...?)

I was hoping for Starhawk to be his father (fits pretty much every description given about Peter's dad in the first movie), but this was a genuine surprise.
I just hope Ego isn't too convoluted for the general audience, particularily about him going from planet to human form.

The Celestials appearing in GotG almost made me weep with joy.

I think that "Booster Cogburn" meant Starfox, not Starhawk.

Peter Quill's mother described his father as an angel bathed in light, which fits Starhawk more than Starfox.

Still love the song, but at this point, it's been done to death (it's even on the soundtrack to the animated GUARDIANS series!).
Hope the first full trailer has a brand-new song choice.

OK...I get that it might be a little...overdone at this point. But...if you truly, deep down, honestly HATE that song? I think you may be dead inside ;)
