I liked it well enough, but I really thought it suffered from a lack of a credible villain. Even after they brought in the magic bullets into it, it still didn't create the feeling that Cage was in any real danger. What we ended up with was recycled fights, and Cage going through a ton of hoodies. It's a shame, as the cast was good, using Harlem as a character worked really well, and the music was on point. It just lacked that level of danger that the other Marvel Netflix shows had. Even Diamondback putting on his Super suit was pretty pointless as if the magic bullets weren't going to stop Cage what was a fist fight going to do?

In Ep 9 the "experiment" Doctor from the prison said Luke Cage's DNA might be an X-Factor explainingwhy the experiment did what it did to him.

Does that mean Fox has surrendered on keeping mutants out of the MCU ? Is "gifted" and "miracle" out the window?

Probably not.

Oh well.

Fox isn't giving up it's mutants.. less so now as they're already planning the next movie plus the Legion TV show coming out.

------

It should be noted that, while not part of the MCU, LEGION is a co-
production between Marvel Television and FX. Marvel is also seems to
be allowing more promotion of the X-Men from their licensees again.

Remove the helmet from the TV 'Diamondback' costume and its pretty damn close to what's drawn here

***

I think a helmet is a pretty big except for ..  If someone put a helmet on Superman but kept the rest of the costume pretty close, I don't think many would say "That's accurate".

In any event, the costume is of little consideration to me; the character sucked before the costume.  Even though actors playing villains have more leeway for flamboyance, the actor here seemed to be operating on a different wavelength than the rest of the cast.  I didn't think he fit into the series at all, and was enormously distracting.

Just finished the fourth episode. Man, the yellow shirt, dark pants, tiara and bracelets were PERFECT!!!

Then, they had to ruin it...

I've always wondered if he found the boots at a garage sale in Westchester County.

The "Yellow spandex" moment. And it's been two of them so far - the second dissing the name Power Man.

Petter, I can't say that I saw "Power Man" being disrespected. The only time I heard the name used was either by Pops, or in reference to Pops' use of it. It seemed to be treated lightly, but not meanly or insultingly.

Later on, Luke corrects Claire when she calls him a name, and he says "Actually, the name was Power Man"
He seemed quite proud of the name.

He seemed quite proud of the name.

But then Claire made a joke about it. Said it was "lame" or "corny."

Yup, Claire said it was corny. And that was the "yellow spandex" moment.

I've watched 5 episodes and am hoping to get some more in tonight and am loving the hell out of the show. I don't mind the yellow shirt and headband not being a part of the show, outside of the fun homage.

Really loving the acting - Mike Colter is fantastic and the supporting actors, such as Simone Missick as Misty and Frank Whaley as the sleazy Detective Scarfe are great.

I love the world Marvel has created on Netflix, and I like Rosario Dawson moving throughout it. I'm hoping the level of quality I've enjoyed in the first 5 continues and am looking forward to Iron Fist.

The wife and I did it backwards; we watched Luke Cage first, and now we're bingeing (kinda...) on "Jessica Jones"... in which Luke is a significant supporting character.

He's a little different, and I hope by the end of JJ, we'll see some interesting developments. And no, we haven't seen all the episodes yet - so JJ news (or Luke items) are spoilers. Please don't spoil me. :D

Marvel has long shunned the Power Man name. It's like they're afraid to let
Luke Cage actually be a superhero.

-----

There's been a new Power Man for several years now, and a new
POWER MAN AND IRON FIST book starring Luke and Danny that has
Luke (with initial reluctance) taking up the Power Man name again.

I love this show.... for 12 episodes.  The 13th kinda ruined it for me.  I HATE the way it ended.  I know they need to set things up for a second season, but they could have ended this a lot better.

The very first scene for season 2 better be Luke walking out of prison and into Claire's arms.

"Marvel has long shunned the Power Man name."

Wow. Thank goodness they'll never do that with Fantastic Four, their flagship title. :( :( :( :( :(

Finished watching it now.
Plenty of good things, and plenty of bad things - which I'll go into once we go into spoiler mode. For now, I'll suffice to say that it felt like the show had two halves - where the first one was clearly better than the second half.

Finished watching the first three episodes. I had forgotten how much I liked Power Man back in the early eighties. I was always happy when the latest PM/IF comic came in. Danny Rand was my favourite but I liked Luke Cage a lot as well. The weird thing was I had forgotten this until someone finally called Misty Knight by her full name in one of the episodes, then it all came rushing back. Very cool. Hope Colleen Wing makes an appearance.

Question. Was Turk a character in the old PM/IF comics as well? I remember him from Daredevil and the character Turk in Luke Cage seems to have the same personality but I don't remember. Too much of a coincidence if he is not the same Turk.

Turk's appearances in the comics were mostly restricted to Daredevil.
The character on the LUKE CAGE show is the same one as seasons 1
and 2 of DAREDEVIL. He even states that he's going back to Hell's
Kitchen in one episode, if I remember correctly.

Finished watching the entire season a few days ago. Really enjoyed it and I have to give credit to the producers for casting Mike Colter in the lead role. I won't say that it was as good as Christopher Reeve / Superman but it certainly ranks up in my top 10 for superhero casting decisions.

While I didn't think that Diamondback was a great villain, I can see that there wasn't going to be much drama if Luke Cage spent the entire first season continually mopping the floor with Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes and his flunkies. Luckily, the magic bullets were tolerable as a plot device, and they weren't overplayed.

I also thought that casting Alfre Woodard as the silent partner / villain was fabulous, as I had never seen her in a role as the antagonist. I look forward to seeing how her role evolves next season.

Rosario Dawson and Simone Missick cast as the potential love interests for Luke Cage?  Colter should be paying the producers under the table for that decision :-)

What would I like to see next season? How about Luke Cage in a courtroom being defended (and cleared) by Matt Murdock? That would certainly free up Luke for the upcoming Defenders series and allow for a guest spot by our favorite Man Without Fear before Danny Rand shows up.

Finished the series this
weekend. Thought the first 3
episodes were the dullest
Marvel episodes I have ever
watched. The series gets
better from episode 4 on, and
becomes decent, but I think
this is by far the weakest of
the Netflix series.
