This summer, an African American girl
named Riri, is going to become Iron Man.

They are about to debut an all new Wasp.

Thor is now Jane Foster

Scott Lang is Ant-Man

Captain America is now Sam Wilson aka The
Falcon

Amadeus Cho is the Incredible Hulk

There is about to not be a single
character that is the actual character and
not swapped out for another, from Avengers
#4. Most have either been race or gender
swapped.

As mentioned in another thread, why on Earth would you
want the characters in the comics to bear any
resemblance to the ones in the smash hit movies that the
public are currently devouring? That's just CRAZY talk!

I wouldn't mind new versions of old characters if they really were new versions of old characters.  I tend to think both Marvel and DC should do what DC did in the 50s -- periodically introduce fresh takes on previous characters.  Unfortunately, DC also set the precedent for the hoarder mentality.  These "new" characters aren't creative progress, they're a shell game.

"Marvel NOW" refers to the best time fans should leave.

In retrospect, Invasion of the Body Snatchers can be seen as an allegory for the fate of Marvel Comics.

The upcoming Star Trek movie apparently portrays Mr. Sulu as gay, and features a scene with his husband.  This "retro-gaying" of Sulu brought a dissent from a source many might not anticipate:  George Takei.  Per the Hollywood Reporter, Takei said, "I'm delighted there's a gay character.  Unfortunately, it's a twisting of Gene's creation, to which he put in much thought.  I think it's really unfortunate."  When he first heard the news, Takei suggested they should make a new character gay.  "I told him 'Be imaginative and create a character who has a history of being gay, rather than Sulu, who had been straight all this time, suddenly revealed as being closeted.'"

Takei's words:  "be imaginative and create a character" should be tatooed on the hide of every Marvel editor.  You want a character with a different religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc.?  Good for you, create one.  But no one at Marvel has the chops to create a character with anything approaching the popularity of those created all those years ago by Jack, Steve, Stan and company.  So their characters must be bent to the "creative" purposes of the new crew.

Here is some more nonsense. A new title by Benis was announced, The Infamous Ironman. Which replaces International Ironman. It will feature Dr.Doom in the role of Ironman.

If they wanted to pretend to be progressive they could have at least picked someone who hasn't already been replaced by a black person twice.

Twice?

I know about Jim Rhodes. Who was the second person?
I'm not bothered by the girl. I am bothered by Dr.Doom being Ironman.

Jim Rhodes on two separate occasions. For prolonged runs, not counting any sort of one off thing.

Doom being Iron Man is about as far out of character as Doom could possibly get.
