I've seen the maple leaf as anything from a lightning bolt to a ball of spikes to a buzz saw. That version takes some beating, tho.

Very inspiring. Which is what superheroes should be about.

Superheroes are not permitted to be inspiring. That would mean they were in some way -- mind, body, spirit -- BETTER than us. The ME Generation and their offspring will not tolerate such a thing!

That's a shame.

I found many superheroes inspiring as a kid (a lack of a father figure MAY have played a part in that). I liked Reed Richards' interest in science and his attempt to find a scientific solution; I liked Batman's commitment to physical fitness; I liked Superman's altruism. Even as a Brit, I found Cap's patriotism to be inspiring.

I wouldn't have articulated it like that as a kid (I doubt I even knew what the word "altruism" meant), but in retrospect, I can see how certain things were inspiring.

If I became a CEO tomorrow, I'd want to be like Tony Stark (as he was originally, no idea what he is like now). If I was pursuing a career in science, I'd want to have the same passion and commitment as Reed Richards. And on all sorts of decisions, may I always make the decisions that Superman would make if he were real. I may never be able to fly into a burning building, but the ideals he stands for are inspiring to me.

"Based on Vinny's comment I googled the first issue
cover, and was presented with another first issue cover,
apparently drawn by someone who did not know Guardian's
costume was the Canadian flag!"

**

Were editors non-existent even back when that was
published? Like, was there no one to say A) "You know
that Guardian's suit is based on the Canadian flag,
right?" and B) "Here's a photo"?

Doing a little online research on that other ALPHA FLIGHT 1, I found a website that provided a synopsis -- a 72 paragraph synopsis. And long paragraphs at that!

I didn't read it.

Mac is a terrific and heroic character. He really was better than the average guy, by a long way. We need more superheroes like Guardian.
