Looks like they lose the Enterprise and then end up in a smaller ship with nacels coming off a primary hull? Sort of like the old Romulan Warbird?

If that chameleon piece of shit is a Gorn, I'm double-out.

New trailer is out

Remember the time when such an important thing as the thing that is littered throughout the trailer would have been a surprise?

Now it's called the "Kelvin Timeline."

So, there's no big mystery or bulid-up as to how Kirk is alive following the events of the last movie?

What mystery do you speak of Brian? Kirk was revived in the last movie. He wasn't dead that long. With in the context of the movie I'd imagine McCoy would have documented what happen so Starfleet would have known.

Have they ever explained why Kelvin had only one warp nacelle?

INVISO TEXT (Click or highlight to reveal):
I'm more amazed at how the supposedly derelict USS FRANKLIN seems to be a hot-rod compared to the late-but-unlamented Abramsprise... And the use of that Rihanna song gives me the impression that this movie is anything but a Trek film (maybe that is the intention?)

Wow. I really put that movie out of my mind.  I don't remember that AT ALL, Anthony.

Brian, if you've forgotten the whole "magic Khan blood, resurrected Tribble" nonsense, consider yourself most fortunate.

Wow. I have absolutely no memory of that whatsoever. I didn't leave early. I usually have a great memory with this stuff. Not this time.

This new Star Trek movie looks godawful. If there's anyone who is a terrible fit for Star Trek it's Fast and the Furious director Justin Lin. The only hope I have of it being somewhat decent is that Simon Pegg wrote the script and he's said that the trailers are not very representative of the actual movie and are leaving out all the good "Star Trek" bits.

I believe at this point, after the damage done to the Star Trek brand by the current, ongoing creative team, making the trailer as much UNLIKE Star Trek as possible was job one for the studio. One more "funny" line from the show or "signature" cliched quip and they'd be risking the audience walking out on whatever movie they paid to see during the trailers...

Best to sell it as a science-fiction adventure, any ol' science-fiction adventure, with our characters, who could be any ol' science-fiction characters, trapped on a menacing alien planet, which could be any ol' menacing alien planet. "For God's sake, don't anybody say 'phaser' or 'warp drive' or 'logical' or "aye, aye" or ANYTHING!!" Just throw in a lot of action and pray the audience doesn't hate the name of the thing as much as they hate the rest of it by now...

But ... those lines are allowed on this "CBS/Paramount/ lawyer's" approved production, aren't they?

More grist for the mill ... .

Now, I don't frequent any other forums so forgive me if this is a
common theory/stating the obvious!

I can't believe they would destroy the Enterprise yet again, so soon into
the rebooted franchise. But clearly they do in the trailer... So what's the
get out clause?

Now we already know how they like to (ahem) recycle old ideas... At
the end of the latest trailer, doesn't it look a lot like a ship slingshotting
around the sun...?

Soooo... The Justin Lin version of the Abramsprise in BEYOND is supposed to have some stylistic callbacks to the original Matt Jefferies design?

Edit * guess I can not link it directly from my Photobucket account.

I don't get it, at first I thought that a warp core usually runs along the length of a starship (from the back to the saucer, along the neck, to the bottom of the secondary hull), but that was a misunderstanding on my part when I checked out cutaway diagrams of other Star Trek starfleet ships.

But still the size of the warp core room (I can't make it out clearly but it looks massive), if someone wants to go to the hangar bay they have to go through engineering?

A step in the right direction. Based upon the latest commercial for the new film. It looks like Spock and Uhura break up.

On a positive note, I will say that I find the title to be very
evocative/intriguing and makes for a good poster

*****

That is going to depress the actress playing Uhura now (I don't know her name).
She wanted Spock and Uhura to remain an item.

I found it rather stupid, implying that there ever was a relation between the two other than being colleagues and good friends.
Again Nero changed history, not people's personalities.

Spock and Uhura break up. Wow... they can't even commit to their characters for THREE EPISODES.

Notwithstanding whether or not Spock and Uhura should be together... they established it in the first episode, and now they are changing it already. Do they really hate characterization that much? No such thing as consistency between characters? Is Uhura going to set her sites on Scotty again now? 'Cause I suspect that relationship won't be any more solid or enduring.

I know that continuity is a dirty word anymore, but a little might be nice.

The early buzz for the film is very positive, and the story is said to be very TOS-like. We'll see. Or not, since I have no interest in watching it until it comes to TV.

For me, it's too little, too late.
