I dubbed it the "New Coke" armor years ago, because, well.....

They debuted within months of each other, and lasted about as long to boot.

…never liked that red & white suit tho' (too bulky)…

••

First step, or at least an early step, on the road that leads to multiple suits of armor for different purposes. "Here's the suit for deep sea diving, here's the suit for outer space..." All things he could do perfectly well in the original armor. When the other suits turned up, I asked "Which one does Robin wear when Batman is injured?"

First time I saw the Silver Centurion suit, I thought it was cool. It looked new and exciting and it sort of typified the impression of looking into the future when I got my hands on imported US comics. The UK versions were a bit behind, so I was still on Secret Wars and Iron Man was red and gold (and Rhodey!) for my UK issues. As time went on though, I found myself longing for the sleeker red and gold version and was happy when they eventually returned to a version of it (inferior as the new version was).

I'm in the minority. I like the red & silver. I DO, however, think it would be very cool in that blue instead of red.

My first impulse when the variant armors started to come out was, "Are they doing this to make more toys?" I thought I was deeply cynical at the time.

I somehow missed this one at the time, but just wanted to say, (very lately) that I really love it. There's such power in this artwork. It really does feel like a 'When Titans meet" type image..
