means a version that is definitive and unmatched.

This is a tricky question. For me, it requires a lot of qualifications, kind of like when someone asks me who my favorite superhero is. If I say Captain America I then have to explain I mean a precious few years of the character's history, not the entire span. So it is with artists. We grow. We shrink. We CHANGE. Jack Kirby's original version of the Hulk is definitive for me. Nothing after those first five issues was the same, and did not speak to me in the same way. There are plenty like that.

Even though Frank Brunner started things off on a great foot, Gene Colan's version is THE Howard the Duck.

There are definitely worthy versions before and after, but these artists took pre-existing characters and really made them their own--
Steranko on NICK FURY
Bill Sienkiewicz on MOON KNIGHT John Buscema on CONAN Jim Starlin on ADAM WARLOCK Frank Miller on DAREDEVIL
I don't mean to take the topic and twist it, but when these artists took on these characters, it's almost like they created a new character. Every time I watch DAREDEVIL on Netflix and see the "Created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett" and then watch as they predominantly adapt (or play off of) the Frank Miller material, it seems wrong. (Of course, that's Miller as writer/artist.)

I could say the same thing about John Buscema and Silver Surfer, Kirby
created him but John drew him for the series much more sleek and slim
compared to Kirby's version. Most people think of Big John's version when it
comes to Silver Surfer.

Exactly. Perhaps I've asked an (almost) impossible question.
That said I've always been intrigued that there are a small number of characters that only one artist, for me, pulls off.
Sasquatch is the biggest one for me. I have never seen a version that comes close to JB's version.

Jack Kirby -the Thing (especially his pencil versions,if anyone has seen them in scans or photocopies are outstanding!!!!) & Thor!!!
Jim Starlin- Captain Mar-vell and Warlock (it is mentioned above as well)
Mike Zeck-Captain America and Punisher...
John Byrne - Phoenix and Nightcrawler ...
Barry Winsdor Smith - Wolverine (need i say why???)
Paul Gulacy - Master Of Kung Fu ( the same here...)
John Romita SR - Spider Man (I know I know about Steve Ditco but i am talking about the character and not the whole result ,panel composition storytelling etc etc...) Gwen Stacy!
Paul Smith - Colossus & Storm
Neal Adams -Superman, Green Lantern
Jim Aparo-Batman
I know that they all come from the 70s - 80s era but it was on purpose to show that even today their depiction is still unsurpassed.

This is so wonky.
The original question asks for characters that only one artist gets right. The post is at pains to point out he is not asking for definitive versions.
The example is given to illustrate the point of Sasquatch. A character that JB drew and then everyone seemed to get wrong. Good example.
But I can't get behind many of the other answers given. For example, if you say Mike Zeck and Captain America, you are saying that everyone else draws Captain America wrong. Therefore Kirby and Byrne and Buscema get Captain America wrong. More examples cited above: Paul Smith and Colossus, Aparo and Batman. This just seems crazy. Neal Adams and Garcia-Lopez draw Batman wrong? JB and Dave Cockrum drew Colossus wrong?
At the risk of being hoisted by my own petard, I'm going to say Doctor Doom. and JB. To defend my point against the apparent craziness of saying Kirby got it wrong, my caveat is since JB added those expressive brows. Those brows seemed to make Doom's mask suddenly so right, and everyone else seems to not follow suit. Hence, the other versions don't look right (though I've seen versions by Mike Zeck that get darn close).
