A truly majestic Galactus piece!!!! One of the MAIN REASONS I'd love to see another JB run on FF… or a SILVER SURFER series set during
his time as herald to Galactus. (Something tells me JB would make it amazing!!)

When the Silver Surfer was introduced he was very much a non-human, unfamiliar even with something as fundamental as eating. His adventure here on Earth, then, was one of discovery -- of learning what it means to be human.

Enter John Buscema. From what I've been told Norrin Radd, Shalla Bal, Zenn-La and the world-saving bargain with Galactus came from Big John when he worked with Stan on the first issue of the Surfer's own title. A complete divorce from what Stan and Jack had previously set up.

And, unfortunately a severe shortening of the timeline, unless we grant the people of Zenn-La extended lifetimes. REALLY extended lifetimes. Something for which there is no real evidence.

In other words, because of the changes introduced in SILVER SURFER 1, there ain't a whole lot of room for pre-Earth adventures.

Amazing! Oh how I wish this was mine but alas no.

This does however remind me that it has been way to long from the time I last asked for a commission of my favorite character that was done by my favorite artist!

Bummer!! Well, Perhaps an anthology series called HERALDS OF GALACTUS would work better!

I love Galactus' crazy machinery, particularly the large square lever (a Byrne invention or something Kirby came up with?). Certainly stirs the imagination.

You really took that 'go nuts' instruction to heart!

Btw, his torso is screaming to Kirby to me.

Really beautiful piece!

A John Byrne Galactus piece is just a wonderful thing. It feels like the real deal, every time.

On the topic of a John Byrne Galactus series-- is there room for a (perhaps heretofore unknown) herald with eons of adventures set BEFORE the Silver Surfer?

I believe the Earth is the first planet to thwart Galactus' will-- but then Norrin Radd had kind of already done it. So there would be a certain amount of potential wiggle-room for any planet that Galactus came across in stories set in the distant past. Escape is possible-- as long as Galactus becomes persuaded that leaving a planet in tact is HIS will and no one else'.

Galactus' history is, to say the least, confused.

When he first arrived on Earth, the Watcher (basically cast as Chorus for this story with so much exposition needed) declared that ours was the FIRST inhabited world the Devourer had visited. Hm! Pretty soon this went the way of ALL FLASH, and we had lots of worlds sating his hunger before Terra Firma swung into view.

Remember when space used to be big?

Ask me to imagine Galactus and it's a JB drawing that appears in my head. Same for She-hulk, Namor, Alpha Flight, and the New Gods. One of those characters that I so strongly relate to JB that even when I can picture other artist's versions, they just don't seem real to me. Great commission!
