Once again, and I know I have revisited this over the years, what are some battles you'd really like to see?

For me, it'd be:

X-Men VS Ultron (has this happened?)
The Thing VS Dr. Octopus
Hawkeye VS Bullseye
Nick Fury VS Lizard
Moon Knight VS Mole Man
Cable VS Dormammu
Man-Thing VS Abomination

For DC, it'd be:

Green Lantern VS Professor Zoom
Mirror Master VS Mad Hatter
Darkseid VS Doomsday
Clayface VS Swamp Thing

And as far as intercompany battles go:

Green Lantern VS Thing
Flash VS Magneto
Captain America VS Catwoman
Ra's al Ghul VS Dr. Doom
Daredevil VS Scarecrow
Dr. Fate VS Super-Skrull
Captain Atom VS Hercules
Mirror Master VS Baron Zemo
Hulk VS Darkseid
Doomsday VS Juggernaut
Gorilla Grodd (and his forces) VS Apocalypse (and his forces)
Batman VS Rhino
Iron Man VS Solomon Grundy
Superman VS Abomination

Many reasons for my choices. I'd like to see X-Men's powers tested against Ultron; Hawkeye VS Bullseye would be about pride/ego as much as anything; I'd like to see how Nick Fury handles Lizard; Dormammu versus a non-magical character might be fun; and can't imagine Abomination's strength would be useful against Man-Thing for too long.

As far as DC goes, GL's ring against Professor Zoom's speed would be fun; I'd like to see Mirror Master and Mad Hatter dazzle each other; and Darkseid VS Doomsday would be quite a battle!

With regards to intercompany, I'd be intrigued seeing how Magneto develops a strategy against Flash; Ra's al Ghul versus Doctor Doom in a battle of wits would be the ultimate match-up; I'd like to know if Scarecrow's fear gas affects Daredevil's radar sense; Hulk versus Darkseid would be fun (could Darkseid really tackle someone as unruly as the Hulk?); I want to see Juggernaut and Doomsday butt heads; I'd like to see Batman's skills used against Rhino; and Grodd and a load of apes taking on Apocalypse and his forces is something I'd very much like to see.

Any views on my choices? Or match-ups of your own?

I'll limit myself to just three matches in each category for my first post in the
thread. (Unless otherwise stated, think of the "classic" versions of the
characters.)

DC
Batman and Robin vs Sivana
Captain Marvel vs Sinestro
Plastic Man vs Black Adam

MARVEL
Black Panther vs Doctor Octopus
Spider-Man vs the Leader
The Sub-Mariner vs Lex Luthor (a la JB)

DC/Marvel
Batman and Robin vs the Sinister Six
Captain Marvel vs the Super Skull
Sinestro vs the Fantastic Four

GL vs. Professor Zoom would pretty much end in one panel, unless the Lantern (it would have to be Hal, right?) lucked out by hitting the minuscule red parts of Zoom's costume...or if he kind of 'cheated' and used a 'big green hand' to drop something on Zoom before he could run away.

Edit: I like the suggestions involving Marvel Family villains vs. other heroes.
I'd have liked to see a JLA-Marvel Family team-up that was better than the jumble of characters in JLA #s 135-137. Let's see King Kull take out half the League. while Mr. Mind toys with the rest.

Graviton Vs Hulk (monster meets gravity)
Mandarin Vs Cap (yeah it kinda happened in acts of vengeance, but cap was in the avengers,i want a solo battle)
Freedom Force Vs The FF (The Thing would come unstuck against Blob)

I was going to suggest the Avengers vs the Monster Society of Evil.

A "little voice in my head" says this happened. A Google search hasn't helped, but I'm almost certain there was one solo battle, maybe a 70s issue. Hmmm...

Good choice, anyway.

Stories involving GL in battle with the Reverse-Flash do exist. Flash 226 & 282 are two that come to mind. A Google Image search turned up a JLA vs. Hunter Zolomon battle that shows GL firing at Zoom. This apparently took place at some point during the Flashpoint crossover.

Hawkeye vs. Bullseye was presaged at least in the Gruenwald mini-series when Clint went up against a guy in a similar costume named Oddball whose super-power was that he couldn't miss. He threw gimmicked grenades rather than playing cards or any ol' thing at hand, but it was a similar style battle.

Flash vs. Magneto hasn't happened exactly to my knowledge, but he has gone up against Master of Magnetism Dr. Polaris in an issue of JLA (#59 by Chuck Dixon) and again in a Cinnamon Mini-Buns mini-comic giveaway issue! Those might provide some of the flavor you're looking for. Some "Super-Team Family" style photoshopping, and you'd never know the difference! :-)

And would a Swamp Thing vs. Clayface battle of a certain era be all that much different that the Man-Thing vs. the Glob fight in G-S Man-Thing #1? I don't think so.

Cap went up against the Mandarin in Captain America #125.

Just to clarify, is this thread about which match-ups we think are the best without any caveats or is it only about match-ups that haven't happened before?

Battles I'd like to see might include...

Captain Marvel vs. Catwoman
Plastic Man vs. Loki & the Enchantress
Mary Marvel or the Golden Age Wonder Woman vs. Doctor Doom
Storm vs. Batman's Rogues Gallery ("A Bad Night Out for Crime!")
The Spectre vs. Galactus ("A place in the scheme of things? My Lord disagrees with you..." and yes, I am familiar with the JSA/Galactus commission in the Crossovers gallery.)
The Legion Espionage Squad vs. SHIELD
Josie & the Pussycats vs. the Cheetah
Spider-Man 2099 vs. the Superman of 2965
Popeye vs. Dick Tracy's Rogues Gallery (Has Popeye ever been shot at? I don't think Popeye would like being shot at...*)
Col. Steve Austin vs. the Red Skull
She-Hulk vs. Supergirl
Captain America vs. Sinestro

* Quick Google search: Yes, he has. He was once shot 15 times by the bad guy and recovered. Cool...

Robbie you are correct. I looked up the mandarin's appearances on the Marvel Chronology Project website (which would make a neat little app) and it says he fought cap way back in Cap #125,which i had no knowledge of as i'd never read it.Nice memory, sir!
