This...i saw the cover, looked inside and saw the gorgeous art and was hooked! As the word `canny` means clever or smart in the UK,i had been labouring under the impression that to be UNcanny was stupid or dumb and had been thinking it was a comedy title! Boy,was i wrong, talk about childish logic!

A relative had a copy of Amazing Spider-Man #77 and as soon as I saw it, I was hooked!

ASM 144

The Kane/Romita cover with the exposition balloons and titles lured me
in and the story scared me enough to think Peter was in trouble.
I was cooked.

Peter Martin-

Yeah it was the UK Secret Wars that did it for me as well. (Ah the secret artist..That was fun!) Before that it had been sporadic issues of the Spider-man reprints, but that opened the door to me in a big way..

And I had the same feeling as JB above when I first saw a store with a 'wall' of comics. Took my breath away!

G.I. Joe:A Real American Hero #12. First
appearance of Destro. My first book of
non-licensed: Incredible Hulk #314.

These were the ones that stated me as a
regular reader. Man Of Steel #1 hooked me
for life. I remember reading it with John
Williams' score playing softly on my tape
deck.

I discovered comics around the age of six, via a box at my grandmother's house. Older comics that belonged to my father and uncles. One that stood out was a JLA/JSA team up. I think it was "Crisis On Earth Two". So I went looking for more we we got back to my own house. The first comic I bought was Green Lantern 40, featuring an appearance by the E-2 GL. I wonder if that made me pick it up?  Bought books sporadically, but no one title. Then I discovered Captain America. Issue 117 was the first I bought and I tried to get every issue after that and a few  from before..

My mom bought this for me at the local Sparkle Market.  I was hooked.

I had been reading some comics but not on a regular basis. What got me to
start reading comics on a regular basis was Son of Origins. Not a true comic
book but it exposed me to the Marvel Universe, including one of my all time
favorite stories Daredevil #47, "Brother, Take My Hand!" by Lee, Colan and
Klein.

I would like to think I was hooked from the very first comic books my mom got me. But I think the ones that cinched it were the team books (the more heros the better). I got  JLA #120  just before Giant Size X-Men so it's the winner.
Justice League of America #120
Funny thing ,Adam Strange became a favorite of mine from this comic, then I really didn't see much of him afterwards.

I spent months researching comics at my local library before taking the plunge. I guess that last issue of Secret Wars must have been on the stands a while.
