The Boys of Summer are back!!!  2016 looks to be a very interesting year in Chicago.  I'm torn between being excited or more reserved ("wait and see") where the Cubs are concerned.  Far too many years of disappointment, even though the line-up looks incredibly strong.

Hope springs eternal!

The Indians have been hovering around being good for a couple years. They need better hitting to support their generally excellent starting pitching.

Tigers are iffy ,even though they signed Upton, Zimmerman and K-rod. Relief is still suspect, and who knows which Verlander will show up.

Happy that baseball is back soon, though as a Reds fan my expectations are extremely low...

Dexter Fowler re-signing with the Cubs is a HUGE shock!!  It also makes them even more loaded....

Wow.  I never thought I'd see the day.

Did anyone happen to catch some of the Marlins/Cuba game?  (Cuba, not Cubs!)

It was fun to watch.  If only because of the fans.

Hey guess what?  We don't have an ongoing MLB thread so I wasn't sure where to post this.  Since this thread is still active...

I met Pete Rose last weekend!

Pete is about as big a deal athlete as there could be for a kid who grew up in southern Ohio.  This was a real thrill.  Yeah, yeah, I know Pete's sort of controversial and all but this was probably the highlight of my year!

I thought long and hard about what to have him sign on the ball.

If all you need is a Pete Rose signature there are thousands of them out there on ebay and even available through his web site.  I decided to really make it a special item and to commemorate the meeting I had to have it personalized.  I think it came out great!  A new prize possession.

Want a good laugh? Bryce Harper's contract is up in a year or two, and he's seeking a $400 million dollar deal.

There's only about 2 or 3 players worth anywhere near that money (Mike Trout, for one). Harper isn't one of them.

Scott Boras is his agent, so he'll probably get the deal, or something close. The Yankees might as well overpay him.

Well....Stanton got a $325 million deal so in a couple more years I'm sure someone will hit $400.

Oh, I've no doubt someone will. The point is, Harper isn't worth anywhere near that much. 2015 was the only season he's hit more than 24 home runs and even came close to triple digits in RBIs.

He's more or less after money based on ONE season. And it wasn't even this past one.

Trout and Stanton I could easily see making $400 million. But not Harper. He might very well get that money, but it'll be from a team that can afford to overpay. Meaning he might end up being a Yankee. I just don't see the Red Sox dropping that kind of money for him.

At some point there has to be a ROI assessment on these contracts...how
much money will you fork out and not win a WS...and for these prices
MULTIPLE WS...and does a Trout or Stanton put enough asses in seats to
recoup that? Crazy stuff!!!
