Seems like it would have been really easy for them to go with a more faithful
interpertation of the costume that would have looked far better than that!

Paul Levitz used to make a point of making sure creators were compensated when their ideas were used in other media. Now it seems like writers and artists have to make some kind of noise to get it done.

••

That's not new. When Mike Zeck and I complained to Marvel, a hundred years ago, that everything we drew seemed to get turned into clip art, the answer was that it was IMPOSSIBLE for the company to keep track of what was being used by whom, but if we wanted to keep track of it ourselves, that would be fine.

Almost at once they issued two card sets, one with Mike's name on the box, one with mine. Couldn't keep track. . .

Yeah, they're about halfway there. . .

Pity, really. I've mentioned before that Silver Banshee was my deliberate attempt to do a Dave Cockrum costume, and I think she turned out as one of my best designs.

(Weird to look at that page. The guys standing in the background. Even that deep into my career, I still hadn't figured out drapery!!)

Bit of a >gulp< moment. I've seen people online referring to Silver Banshee as a "classic DC character" and thought "Classic?"

I note from the © date on that splash that she will be 30 years old in 2017!!

I thought Silver Banshee was a classic character that existed before JB's run - this is the first I am realizing you created her!

Further proof that I dropped all comics during JB's Superman run - I was using what little teenage money I had on movies and mall food courts.

When we were in Victoria B.C. after Christmas, we stayed across the street
from what was literally a city block full of different comic-book stores. I
wandered through each and recall being disappointed that the back issue
stock seemed to have only "recent" titles. "Why, when I was a kid, my local
comic book store had Silver Age Superman!" Of course, it hit me that those
"recent' titles were at least 25 years old -- older even than the Silver Age
Superman comics were when I used to delight in finding them as a kid.

Time is the fire in which we burn!

That SB page leads me to ask a question in the back of my head for years....that issue was both pencilled and inked by you, but something felt.....different about it. My suspicion was that this issue was tightly pencilled by you, with the anticipation that this would be inked by someone else, but then you ended up inking it yourself, whereas you usually go for looser pencils when you know that you'd be inking yourself.

Do you recall if that's the case?

The backgrounds on that issue were inked by Keith Williams (note credit). That might be what you're seeing, Vinny.

Or, in keeping with a developing theme in this thread, maybe you're just old and crazy.

JB - Silver Banshee's boots and gloves: Are the flowing tops
suggesting smoke, fog, or some kind of ectoplasm?

...

I feel your pain (for you in the past). I've been doing some pencil exercises recently ,draping my hoodie over a chair and working on the folds and contours. Man that takes discipline and patience !
