Wow! What a great background! I almost wish this were just a
commission of an aerial view of Smallville! But Superboy & Krypto look

I almost wish this were just a commission of an aerial view of Smallville!•• When I was working on Superman, I gave serious thought to spending a week or six producing a huge aerial shot of Metropolis, with the perspective fanning out from the lower right corner, all the way up to a straight horizon view at the top. Insanely detailed. Then, I figured, any time Superman (or anyone else) flew over the city, I could cut-and-paste a section of the big drawing into the background. This was not to save time, mind you. This was in service of my OCD wanting the city to be consistent from panel to panel!

Best commission...ever (well, until the next one).
Confession time: I grew up wishing I could live in a village/town akin to Smallville. My happiest life period was spent in a semi-rural/rural area called Falcon Lodge where there was a community spirit, plenty of fields and so much else.
Sorry, getting nostalgic. I grew up *loving* Superboy. This brings back so many memories. :)

I grew up *loving* Superboy.•• Contrary to popular mythology, so did I! And NOTHING made my nine year old heart sing louder than stories where Krypto showed up!

I don't want to suggest my life was akin to Superboy (there was no bald villain getting on my nerves each week). I just happened to read a lot of those Superboy tales when I was living in semi-rural Falcon Lodge (about sixteen miles from your hometown, sir!). And I enjoyed living there, I enjoyed having a pet, it had the same community atmosphere as a Smallville. It was great.
Sorry, I often see the world through the filter of comics!

What a nice commission. I have a soft spot for Krypto too. I liked that Superboy had a loyal dog to play with. I teared up when Krypto opened the Gold Kryptonite in the Pocket Earth story.

Talk about finding pleasure in the little things, but I love the townspeople. As small as they are, they're still clearly bursting with excitement at the sight of their hero. Takes me back to the days before "grim and gritty" ruined everything.
