I agree that neither costume is in a class with the first, and that the first is a classic.  I do think, however, that the Fighting American costume Kirby (& Simon?) designed in the fifties gives the CA costume a run for its money.  Maybe that was part of Kirby's problem--coming up with a 4th patriotic costume after CA, FA, and Private Strong (the Shield).

Interesting.  I always thought Captain Glory was a character Jack designed - but didn't use - for the Fourth World.

Just out of curiosity, seeing as how the design for Captain Glory was originally intended as a redesign for Captain America, I wondered how the character would look with a color scheme more like that of Captain America.

Wow! I had no idea how much difference a change in color would make!

re: Bill Everett's "'Wet Suit' a la Black Widow?" I'd think the red-white-and-blue on the A would quickly go. Was the new Black Widow outfit a trendsetter for comics?

Robert Bradley: That Everett design is pretty interesting - but I don't know about Cap with a cigarette!

In forty years private Steve Rogers smokes his pipe in several times. Steranko makes some back to origins!
