http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/comic-con-its-official-zack- snyder-to-direct-batman-and-superman-in-one-movie

Just saw the news on this, and thought I'd share.  First thought:  well, I expected something like this.  Second thought:  More desaturated color and rubber suits.

If the mods feel this belongs in the MOS thread, please move as you see fit.

Edited the thread title to make it easier to find in a search~Matt

First, second and last thought (something I said on Facebook as well): if it's as crappy as MoS and Dark Knight Rises, they've saved me the price of ticket.  Thanks, WB!

Snyder called up actor Harry Lennix to read a teaser statement that was recognizable to fans of DC Comics: “I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come, in your most private moments, I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.” (For those that don’t know, that’s from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.)

I agree with Matt's sentiments.

-C!

I don't trust the WB and DC to "get this one right" by a country mile. And you get bet this will be another "cut the kid audience out of the equation; for adults only" DC superhero film that they're becoming increasingly known for. F___ them.

Dc's taking the less comic book and more "realistic" approach with all their heroes, (fitting that even in movies they are inferior to Marvel) which is something each person has to decide if they can accept or not. For me, a Superman/Batman film with Cavil  and whomever is going to be the new Bruce Wayne, is something I'll want to see.

To me, it's more than just a "realistic" approach.  It's the core of the character.  Cavill was surprisingly good casting, but the core of the character he played just wasn't Superman to me and that had nothing to do with being "realistic" or not.

I fully agree that they haven't gotten the chore of their characters right, but to ground these movies in so much "realism" that they are boring, (more so the Nolan Batman films) when the Avengers showed how it can be done, is such a wrong move in my opinion.

I can't get excited over this news. I'm mostly done with comic book movies. I haven't seen Man of Steel and I wish I hadn't seen the last Batman movie.

I haven't seen the last Batman movie, and I wish I hadn't seen Man of Steel.

We're Bizarro versions of each-other.

Batman and Superman on screen together is an enticing prospect.

After Man of Steel, Zack Snyder directing and Goyer writing is about as welcome as a new verruca.

With Snyder's involvement, after the utterly wretched MoS, I wouldn't watch this if they paid me.

Being an inveterate superhero fan I will likely watch this. But I will make sure I will not have given money directly to the studio for this "privilege".

Since I really enjoyed both "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Man of Steel" I'm really excited about this news! :)

The movie announcements of DC and Marvel show how much further
along Marvel is.

Sadly, this already sounds awful. Quoting the Dark Knight Returns makes it sound even worse.

I think quoting from DKR was the wrong thing to do, because now everyone assumes it's going to be "Batman vs. Superman".  I'll wait and see how it all plays out.

Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing it.  The speculation over who will play Bruce/Wayne/Batman is going to be insane the next few months however!

"The movie announcements of DC and Marvel show how much further
along Marvel is."

It really is obvious isn't it?   At Comic-Con Marvel released footage of Guardians of the Galaxy (featuring characters as "out there" as Groot and Rocket Raccoon, footage from Captain America 2 (more Black Widow, Falcon and Winter Soldier), Thor 2 and Avengers 2 with huge villains (Maleketh, Ultron, Thanos) and characters like Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver,
Batroc, Nova, Dr. Strange, Ant Man and more coming to the screen in one form or another in the next 4 years.

Oh yeah....and a television show that all reports say is going to be very good.

And DC sez......"Hey kids!  We're bringing BATMAN to the screen with Superman!"

Yawn.....

Its not like Marvel and DC are competing in the movie business IMO. Its more like DC is that classic rock record album that has the worst scratch on it at the best part of the best song and they can't stop it from playing over and over and over....

So, they're afraid to say 'Superman' in the commercials for the first movie, and now they announce the sequel with a quote of another character BEATING Superman.  That's a whole lotta love they have for their guy.

At least Batman has a good reason not to want Superman in Gotham.

"You knocked half your city down then you come to mine? No way. Get out. Now. Please. Seriously, here's 100 million. Just to go away."

Based on what I have seen of MAN OF STEEL, Zack Snyder was more interested in making a Batman movie to begin with.

Say or think what you like about the Marvel movie universe, but it is pretty clear they have a plan and a strategy in place for the long haul. I see no evidence of that from DC. Just bringing back old ideas that failed to ignite a decade ago.
