I wonder what this says about Man Of Steel's numbers. It did well enough for a sequel, surely - but not THAT well? Or are DC in a hurry to build their film universe?

The quote I read had Lennix qualifying the quote from "The Dark Knight" as, "We're not adapting this, but this will give you an idea of what we're doing next..."  I'm paraphrasing from memory but the point was that they aren't adapting the Superman versus Batman conflict.

Not that that means anything one way or the other.  A World's Finest film could be an incredible proposition, if done correctly.  Based upon where Warners left the Batman franchise, along with the issues I had with Man Of Steel...definitely a wait and see approach to this.

One thing Marvel got right with AVENGERS was to build up the characters independently before bringing them together in one movie. But looks like Nolan's Batman is done, so this will be yet another reboot, so to me this feels like a Superman movie with some guy in a Batman suit as a guest-star.

I agree, Vinny! I can't get excited about this unless I hear that Bale is suiting
up as Batman.

I wouldn't be too sure about that.  Without any more knowledge than all y'all have, I'd say that choosing that quote was done for a specific purpose.  They could have chosen any of a number of different lines that comic geeks like ourselves would have recognized.  That they chose the conflict line between the two leads me to believe that that's exactly what we'll see.  Whether it's in the form of DK or not is still to be determined.

Tweeted Zack a couple of weeks back (his tweet address is publicly known) gushing that the next Superman movie should be inspired by the Good, the Bad, and The Ugly.

Where Superman is the Good, Luthor is the Bad, and The Batman is the Ugly. A 3-way battle where alliances are tenuous at best and friendships and enmities are forged in the crucible of war.

My head would explode if this pans out.

I like the idea that this will feature the new Batman. I hated Nolan's version and they never got the costume right in any of his movies. Start the Batman reboot and  hopefully give us a better costume.

Featuring the new Batman under the guidance of Zack Snyder?  Yeah, thanks but no thanks.  I've already seen his guidance of Superman and it's one I wish I'd never seen.

I get the feeling that, if MOS had met expectations and been a giant hit,
we'd being hearing about MOS 2 right now.

A Superman-Batman film feels like a "Plan B" stunt tactic to me.

MoS will be #3 domestic out of all films released this year to date after a couple of days (DESPICABLE ME 2 is going to succeed it this week).  Say what you want about the film, but it exceeded expectations and is considered a big hit.

Oh? I hadn't been following its box office. I was under the impression
that it would finish with a total not significantly higher than RETURNS. I
see now that you're right--it's closing in on $300 million. Huh.

Snyder confirmed MoS main cast will return for the new film, ensuring that Perry White will be keeping Lois from reporting on the world's greatest dick measuring contest...

I dunno...this movie's doing really well but somehow I feel that if it was doing
as well as the studio expected we'd be hearing about Braniac as the villain in
MOS 2 and the potential casting for a Batman re-boot...not Batman as
Superman's co-star in his next film.

I mean...this is Warner's new tent-pole and it's gonna finish the year behind a
sequel and a three-quel! They need a Dark Knight-ish hit out of the next
MOS and this does feel like the nuclear option.

The announcement alone is more exciting than what Marvel announced, or to be honest, anything Marvel has been produced. I'm very happy about the route WB/DC has taken with their films.

This has the potential to kick serious behind. The Nolan version of Batman was close to perfect , will be interesting to see Snyders take, wouldn't surprise me if the suit was black and grey this time.

Henry Cavill was perfect casting as Superman. I'm going to miss Christian Bale, but I trust the filmmakers to cast a good actor for the part.

From Newsarama: "Snyder was careful to say that they weren't adapting Miller's 1986 miniseries, but said theDark Knight Returns passage will help "tell you something" about the upcoming film."

What that tells me is that there will be some form of conflict based upon what was established in The Dark Knight Returns.  Otherwise, what would be the point of citing that particular quote?

Apparently in modern storylines, the only thing the (formerly) World's Finest heroes can do is fight each-other

I've already had a non-heroic Superman, and a non-heroic Batman - I guess it makes sense for these two losers to fight each-other since neither one is really a hero.

It is the nuclear option, but Summer 2015 is looking like WWIII with Star Wars VII and Avengers 2. If you're WB, do you want to go up against that with Superman and Brainiac, or Superman/Batman? Not looking forward to the execution but I can understand why they're going in that direction-- and I absolutely think they'd do it even if MoS pulled in another 60-70 mil.

There's going to be some serious blood on the carpet in 2015. No way are all those mega movies going to get their money back.

And where will the little films fit in?

Were Spielberg and Lucas right after all?

As one who has been watching this circus for a long time now, I find it most amusing that DC's response to a Batman movie cleaning up at the Box Office in 2012 is to produce in 2013 a comic modeled on the 1960s "hit" TV series.

DC COMICS - WHERE TOMORROW IS YESTERDAY!

If they make the tension and banter between the characters like some of the (better) modern comics and animated series, that would be great.

The first meeting of the two characters should cause a conflict. And obviously late in the film they would team up.

I find both the Nolan Batman and Snyder Superman heroic. yay for me!!

Yeah. Wonder Woman introduces herself to Aquaman and smashed a Ford F-150 into his face. Then he kicks her through a Wendy's into an Arby's. She comes running out and beans him with the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine and he whops her with a Black and Decker gas powered leaf blower. Then he tries to hit her with the butt of his trident but she gets her lasso around it and then as they do a tug of war and circle each other Kanjar Ro attacks!
