For some reason this drifted thru my head this morning. Possibly it was reviewing the COMMUNITY thread, and rereading some of the posts about the paintball episodes ("VICKIE!!!"). Got me wondering -- when did this affectation, which seems to be all over the place these days, first appear?

The earliest I can recall is in the SUPERMAN vs MUHAMMED ALI book.

"This is a job for Superman!" is the earliest version that comes into my mind.

••

That's not even remotely what I am talking about.

Having never seen Community, I'm not familiar with the reference.

Seriously. guys? This is not specific to COMMUNITY. Seems like I can't turn around without some character yelling his/her own name whilst charging into battle.

As noted, first time I recall seeing this schtick was in SUPERMAN vs MUHAMMED ALI. . .

...but I've seen it plenty of times since, especially recently.

And I'm not talking about "Avengers Assemble" or "This looks like a job for..."

Does Captain Caveman pre-date Superman vs Muhammed Ali?

I'm sorry, but if you aren't counting a "Kneel before Zod" type of third person referral of oneself, I really can't think of any particular time I have noticed this.

The "Vicky"  reference seems to clearly reflect the internet meme of Leeroy Jenkins, for what that's worth.  Not the earliest time it was done, of course, but certainly that's where the current popular affectation comes from.
