Plenty of period costumes in Return of the Archons,  City on the Edge of Forever,  and All our Yesterdays to use variations on the theme I guess.  Plus, Discovery has canonically confirmed the existence of Holodecks in Kirk's Era (even if they had limited tech on the Enterprise until TAS at least).

A few days dealing with a penicillin allergy left me with my face all puffed up.. Nothing goes to waste, however! Took a few "selfies" and used one of them to create a displacement map for the modeler.

Now, are we ready for a crossover with THE LORD OF THE RINGS?
