By the way, that transitional Bridge reminds me of the Yorktown in FRONTIER DOCTOR, with the more TMP-style Bridge (replacing the one destroyed in ROMULANS: SCHISM) stuck onto the classic Constitution design.

One thing that keeps bubbling in my brain is just how much work I'd be creating for myself. As noted before, every time I use a screen shot I'll have to paste in the altered parts.

That said, something else I've been thinking about is the chairs. As most of you know, tho I very much like the standard version, I'm not really happy with the models. Replacing them with a different design would scratch that itch -- but again create the need for Ps surgery every time I use a screencap.

Sacrilege?

Far from "finished", obviously. Plus, if I was to embark on something like this, I would introduce the new elements one at a time, most likely to a chorus of Scotty grumbling at each new change.

Blur and noise added.

Looks good.   Please make the railings slightly more red though.  They're scaring me.

Received the latest trade paperback, and finally read "More of The Serpent Than The Dove". Enjoyed the heck out of it.

Scotty's reaction in the final panel had me grinning, which goes to show how effective the careful selection and placement of the still images can be, in this series.

JB, sacrilegious or not, the chairs on your latest updated bridge are nifty-looking!

Thanks!

As I noted earlier, using this model means I can't really use straight screen caps of the various sefs. Experimenting, I've found it best to find a shot with the required figures -- or most of them -- positioned as I need them, then set up my model with the same camera angle, taking care to rotate and move my chairs to match the positions of the originals. Then it's a case of cutting and pasting the figures into the existing positions.

I tried a shot NOT doing this, and it turned out to be WAY more work.!

Yesterday I started work on the interior of a spaceship that will feature prominently in the 21st (1) issue. After laboring mightily to model chairs suitable for a new alien race, I quickly began to realize the rest of the ship could be "fleshed out" with parts pirated from other models.

Once again, a grand old TOS tradition is perpetuated!

Here's that interior. Didn't use as many "spare parts" as I expected to.

Blur and noise added.

"Final" version may be somewhat simpler, as this takes a LONG time to render!*

* Well, relatively! About a ten minutes. When I first started modeling the renderings would take MUCH longer. The cityscape I used on a WONDER WOMAN cover took three DAYS!!

Those shapes and colors lead to adjectives like, fantastical and exotic.

Hardly wait for this episode!

John, when issue 26 comes out and the series reaches the equivalent of one full TV season (in the old cable TV pre-Netflix sense of course), any chance for a New Visions omnibus (26 issues at 48 pages comes to 1248 pages - perfect for a big one)?

An omnibus is under discussion. Perhaps even a Very Special omnibus.

More on that later!

I'm just waiting for a book-and-record set, with proper sound effects, music, and voice acting!

Alas, that would require a story that concentrates on Kirk, Sulu, Uhura and Chekov!

Mind you, I wasn't necessarily thinking that the original actors would be vital to such a thing. It would be disappointing--and perhaps even blasphemous--but soundalikes would serve well enough!

I would love to own a NEW VISIONS omnibus edition. I might give a couple of them out as gifts!

I do wonder, and perhaps JB can speak to this, if printing costs for a 1200-page collection would raise the cost of a NEW VISIONS omnibus--I mean, raise it substantially beyond the usual $75-$100 range for omnibuses (omnibi?). The collected editions of NV aren't any more expensive than "regular" comics collections, but with a really big book in photomontage format, I wonder if the cost to IDW would become a factor.

Please note: I am not saying I wouldn't buy it, even at a higher price!

Not to break the discussion on the cost, but I also realized that New Visions omnibus would be the first one ever for a photo comic - a milestone for the form in general.

Poking around in still unpacked boxes in the basement, I found an old backup disk of models from decades ago, including this one.

Intriguing enough to make me wonder if there is a place for it in STNV.

That disk also produced this, my very first model of the Bridge. All done strictly from memory. Yoiks!!

This early version of Strata had a built in reflective surface in unmapped parts. I never was able to figure out how to get rid of it. Fortunately, it seemed Strata themselves decided it served no real purpose.

* * * *

A story in which an alien intelligence makes Kirk believe he is an inmate in an early 20th century asylum?
