Once again I note a number of fan sites that describe STNV as "wordy" or even "too wordy."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meh, I would not take it as an insult.
I know I should not use this forum or topic as a platform to talk about how I dislike the Ongoing Star Trek comic.
But compare issues of that comic series with New Visions. * boom bang * "once again Kirk and the crew must fight enemies and do overdone comic cliches"
Every time I give that comic a try it finds new ways to annoy me.
(Mr Byrne, I hope I am not out of order here)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks! I've already started concocting a story to go with it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can already imagine the Enterprise using its phasers to crack those ice sheets from orbit.
For those who still think this is "just cut and paste"...
A few months ago I finished issue 15. All done and shipped off to IDW. But now, a circumstance has arisen that requires me to completely replace the "guest star" I have in the issue. Which means finding another actor, redoing the shoot, redoing the cut and paste. . .
In a word, ARRGHH!!!
Fortunately, this was one of the issues that I saved in Layers, so the process of replacing the character should be easy enough, just tedious and time consuming. Some eighty or more shots!!
Playing around with the idea of a Captain April flashback, I did some tinkering with my model of Pike's bridge to alter a few subtle details in the way 1st Pilot changed for 2nd Pilot and again for TOS.
Five changes. Can you spot them?
I may also change the configuration of the overhead readout screens.
Five changes... Sulu's targeting device isn't there. There is what looks like a desk lamp on the captain's chair. Color scheme looks different. No raised screens/guards for Chekov and Sulu. Uhura's station seems to be missing one of the communications disk-shaped devices.
How close did I get?
Not even close. You're not thinking in the vintage.
I'll take a stab at it--
* Slightly different Captain's chair.
* Hooded viewers on the helm console, with the gooseneck viewers having been removed.
* Ship schematic missing from turbolift alcove.
* Something added to the opposite side of the turbolift alcove. Or has the schematic simply been repositioned from one side to the other? The image is a bit dark to tell.
* The the top edges of the chairs look to have a very slightly different shape--they seem to flare out a bit more, although this may just be how they were modeled, originally.
That's all I'm seeing, at first glance. I'll bet I'm missing something obvious.
The ship schematic has not been removed -- Pike vintage, it wasn't there! I did add a bit of "plumbing" to the wall to the right of the elevator door, tho.
The chairs are slightly different, but that's not part of the changes made here. Only that these were the closest I could find to the tulip chairs used.
Here's the rendering artificially brightened. Loses mood, shows detail.
++++++++
I just checked some screencaps--it was there, just not illuminated, apparently.
You're right. There's SOMETHING there. But I would not bet money it's the schematic. Most likely, but no way to be sure.
That's all well and good, but I'm more interested in who you're going to get to 'play' Bob April?
Hmm, I'll try;
Gooseneck viewers replaced
Wall wash lights running the top perimeter
The helm is wider and possibly longer
Chair missing from second engineering station
Wall to the left of the turbo lift is wider
I would. Just popped in the Blu-Ray. The schematic can be seen in this shot. It's just not illuminated, as in the series proper. Easier to see on my TV than in the screencap.
At the very least, the graphic (which can also be seen on one of the overhead Engineering console screens during the opening scene) was definitely designed for the pilot, since the ship cutaway has half the number of decks of the final version, and the shape isn't quite right, since the art was apparently made before the ship's theoretical size was doubled by Roddenberry and Jefferies.
No idea what you added, but loving the strong and soft lighting giving hard and soft overlapping shadows.
The schematic can be seen more clearly in this shot.
As an aside, I've been tempted to find a replica of that graphic, to go along with my dedication plaque. Then, I could put each on either side of a door in my home...
Anyway, I'm totally down with a Captain April story. That's an era with a lot of potential, since it really hasn't been explored all that much.
There are probably rules against that sort of thing.
Test: Scotty and some of his men investigate an abandoned ship.
I have officially reached full fusion with TOS! This entire set, except for the painted lines on the floor, was built from parts used in other models!
Full fusion! I thought I sensed something different about today.
Congratulations!
I can't remember: Are you able to use images from any other shows?
Paramount shows, perhaps?
Notwithstanding legal snags, I saw Carl Betz on TV yesterday and it felt like
seeing a missing cast member from TOS. He's best known as Donna Reed's
husband on her show and for his own "Judd, for the Defense". But I have been
ignorant of his work so getting that feeling yesterday made me think of this
thread and how it might possibly come of something if the stars could only
align correctly.
