We've done this before but since there are quite a few new members I
thought it might be fun to let them play.

Here's the rules. Pick the line of books you would want published
each month. Pick the writer and penciler. They can be currently
working for Marvel, have previously worked for Marvel, or have never
collected a paycheck from them. The only rule is that they have to be
living. We're pretending your comic book line could actually come out
today. List writer first then artist. If the writer and artist are the same
just list them once.

Amazing Spider-Man- Roger Stern/ John Romita Jr.
Spectacular Spider-Man- Tom DeFalco/ Ron Frenz
Fantastic Four- John Byrne
The Avengers- Kurt Busiek/ George Perez
Captain America- Mark Waid/ Ron Garney
The Mighty Thor- Walt Simonson
Invincible Iron Man- David Michelinie/ Bob Layton
Uncanny X-Men-John Byrne/ Ivan Reis
Incredible Hulk-Len Wein/ Lee Weeks
Doctor Strange- Steve Englehart/ Alan Davis
Daredevil-Mark Waid/ Andy Kubert
Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.-Ed Brubaker/ Lee Weeks
Punisher- Marv Wolfman/ Adam Kubert
Marvel Team Up (Staring no one, showcasing other heroes in the
                               Marvel Universe without a book)-
                               Roger Stern/ Alan Davis
Tales To Astonish (cosmic book showcasing Capt. Marvel, Nova,
Thanos, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc.)-
                                   Jim Starlin/ Dale Eaglesham
Tales Of Suspense (Captain America WWII book. Featuring solo
Missions, and team ups w/ Bucky, Invaders,
Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos)-
                                     John Byrne

That's 16 titles at $3.99 a piece. You could get the whole Marvel line
for under $64. I'd bet real money that this would get every title selling
at 150,000 copies an issue, knowing that a reader could afford the
entire line. Having only 16 titles getting higher print runs would help
lower my production costs as well.

Great selection - reminds me of what Marvel looks like when I started on commics in the early 1980s.  Inevitably, I would have to add Alpha Flight by JB (picking up from the end of his run) along with Captain Britain written and drawn by Alan Davis - probably to replace your two Tales books.

Stephen, I would only replace the Spectacular Spider-Man by Tom DeFalco/ Ron Frenz with a comic book for Wolverine by Frank Miller / David Mazzuchelli. One comic book for spidey should be enough (IHMO)

Starting simple with 7 titles. Four solo books and three teams.

Amazing Spider-Man by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz

Captain America by John Byrne and Joe Kubert

Avengers by Roger Stern and Walt Simonson

Fantastic Four by John Byrne

X-Men by Alan Davis

Incredible Hulk by Roger Stern and Sal Buscema

Dr. Strange by John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake

10 -12 books and Stan Lee would write everything and JB would draw everything.  But since I like other creators also here are my dream teams.

Amazing Spider-Man- Stan Lee/ John Romita

Spectacular Spider-Man- Stan Lee/ John Romita jr.

Fantastic Four- John Byrne
The Avengers- Roger Stern/ George Perez
Captain America- Mark Waid/ Ron Garney
The Mighty Thor- Walt Simonson

Invincible Iron Man- David Michelinie/ JRjr

Uncanny X-Men-John Byrne/ Ron Frenz

Incredible Hulk-Len Wein/ Sal Buscema

Tales To Astonish (cosmic book showcasing Capt. Marvel, Nova,
Thanos, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc.)-
                                   Jim Starlin/Alan davis

Tales Of Suspense (Captain America WWII book. Featuring solo
Missions, and team ups w/ Bucky, Invaders,
Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos)-
                                     John Byrne/Joe Kubert

My knowledge of writers and artists (not named John Byrne) is suspect at this point. But here's what I would do based on Stephen's:

Amazing Spider-Man- Roger Stern/ John Romita Jr.
Spectacular Spider-Man- Tom DeFalco/ Ron Frenz
Fantastic Four- John Byrne/ Alan Davis
The Avengers- Kurt Busiek/ George Perez
Captain America- Mark Waid/ Ron Garney
The Mighty Thor- Walt Simonson
Invincible Iron Man- David Michelinie/ John Romita Jr.
Uncanny X-Men- Chris Claremont/ Jim Lee
Incredible Hulk- Len Wein/ Adam Kubert
Doctor Strange- Roger Stern/ Alan Davis
Daredevil- Mark Waid/ Andy Kubert
Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.-??/ Neal Adams
Punisher- Frank Miller
Marvel Team Up (Staring no one, showcasing other heroes in the
                               Marvel Universe without a book)
                            -Various writers and artists
Tales To Astonish (cosmic book showcasing Capt. Marvel, Nova,
Eternals, Silver Surfer, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc.)
                                 - Jim Starlin
Wolverine- John Byrne
X-Men Hidden Years/Classic X-Men/X-Factor
(any title featuring original X-Men)- John Byrne

* Wolverine would be fixed and all the James Howlett nonsense would be done away. If this isn't possible then Wolverine's solo title by JB would set in the past before all the convoluted revelations.

George, I thought about JB writing and drawing a Wolverine solo
title. But, I think the character is overexposed and the idea of seeing JB
do a WWII Captain America is too tempting to pass up. One thing I did
was try and be somewhat realistic with how much every creator could
handle. I have JB writing three books and drawing two. I'm guessing
that would max his schedule. Although I probably misfired with Alan
Davis and Lee Weeks. Davis can handle a monthly but I don't know
about two. Due to health issues, Weeks would have trouble with one
monthly let alone two. I'd probably have to rotate with someone like
Steve Epting on both books. Weeks however, would define the model
sheets for the characters.

Stephen, this is always fun to imagine. I too tried to be as realistic as my knowledge would let me. I have JB writing three and drawing two as well. I think he's handled this sort of workload before. And in "my" Marvel, the production schedule would be built way out in advance. Creators that can handle multiple titles and duties would have plenty of lead time.

In a fantasy world JB would draw all the titles. I agree Wolverine and mutants in general, are over exposed. But there's a market for him and no one does Wolverine better than JB. As much I personally would prefer JB doing WWII Captain America/Invaders as you list, I think a Wolverine title would sell better than WWII Captain America. Pretty sure JB would have zero interest in the Wolverine character as it exists today, so in order to get him on board, he'd be allowed to do his Wolverine.

I have to rethink Alan Davis on two books. I just don't know enough about the track records. I see that I left out Steve Epting, Bob Layton and Dale Keown, Mike Zeck just to name four.

Wow, I left Zeck off my list as well. Currently I have Adam Kubert on
my list for the Punisher. I can't believe I left off Zeck. Thanks for the
reminder George. It shouldn't be hard to find him a place. Between me
having Davis on two titles and Adam Kubert who is notorious for being
late, I could bounce him between TEAM UP and PUNISHER and still
get him 12 issues a year. I couldn't part with the Idea of Alan Davis
drawing DR. STRANGE.

These are always pretty tough because I wind up using runs that have already happened but here goes...

I'd do mine as a line wide re-boot. Nothing crazy like Dr. Doom with hooves but the original stories updated in the first issue allowing the writer to "adjust" some things (add dialogue, change a scenario). The idea would be to have a Marvel Universe like the one we grew up on. No crossovers outside of guest appearances here and there.

Fantastic Four-John Byrne

Avengers- Joe Casey/Mark Bagley (As gonzo as alot of Casey's work is, he's a true Avengers fan and I'd think that he'd do them right.)

X-Men (Original Five) - John Byrne

Captain America- Rick Remender/John Romita Jr. (I admit it, I'm intrigued!)

Daredevil- Same creative team as now

Amazing Spider-Man- Roger Stern/John Romita Jr.

Invincible Iron Man- Dave Michelinie/Bob Layton

The Incredible Hulk- Jeff Parker/Ed McGuinness

The Mighty Thor- Walt Simonson

Something with the All-New All Different X-Men but not as X-Men- Chris Claremont/Alan Davis

Nick Fury- Ed Brubaker/Steve Epting/Jackson Guice

Ant-Man- Tom DeFalco/Ron Frenz/Sal Buscema

Union Jack- Christos Gage/Mike Perkins

Defenders- Peter David/Leonard Kirk

Guardians of the Galaxy- Jim Starlin

Black Widow- Neal Adams

Black Panther- George Perez This would be a fun comic full of Wakandan wonder. Nothing political, no gritty vigilante stuff, straight on action and excitement.

I'd invite some of the current "Architects" (Fraction, Hickman, Aaron, and maybe Bendis) some up and comers, and some of the more classic writers (Weezie, Shooter, Thomas, Nocenti..)  to pitch ideas for a Marvel Premiere title that would springboard to newer ongoing series using various artists that I left out.
