Ah, sorry I missed your post, Dave. So the fact that the original creators are no longer around to be upset makes it morally different somehow? If Moore were to pass away tomorrow, would the Watchmen sequel become acceptable in a way that it's not now? That seems very specious.

Alan Moore seems to be nothing more than a windbag to me. I've never really enjoyed anything of his. When I read comics, I want to have fun, drama, and adventure...not depressing deconstructions.

Bill: I would definitely recommend the ABC line, which were fun and smart comics from top to bottom with stellar art. Promethea is part of this line, but it's definitely the outlier in terms of formal and thematic complexity. Everything else is just plain fun. The Jack B. Quick shorts with Kevin Nowlan, in particular, are a hoot.

a 15 year old me had ZERO idea who the Charlton Characters were, yet I read and enjoyed WATCHMEN (mostly for the artwork...) with much enjoyment.

Has anyone read "The Hero with a Thousand Faces"? I saw a documentary
about the author and it seems that nothing is original in storytelling.

Novel ..................................................... I was at the comic shop I now frequent and mentioned I was a fan of the movie. I stood there waiting for the guys I was talking to to start berating me but they all said they loved it. The guy working there threw in--"Sex scene and all."

Despite the multiple repackagings, WATCHMEN was originally released as a COMIC BOOK SERIES. And, as I delight in pointing out, since the term "comic book" has no tie to a specific format, they're ALL comic books, no matter how they're wrapped.

I saw a documentary about the author and it seems that nothing is original in storytelling.•• I have said for years that there is only ONE story: boy meets girl. All we do is change the elements. Boy meets boy. Girl meets girl. Boy meets thermonuclear device. Etc. Ideally, tho, we try to make our latest mix 'n' match as original as we can -- and "originality" is not defined by having one of the characters say "This is where I got the idea from. . . "

My curiodity was bigger then, lol.
I have mixed feelings about Watchmen.
I Love the feeling of the 70s comics. Superman and Batman were
friends. Batman was a scientist criminal investigator and he could not
win agaist everything. Comics were about adventures and heroes dont
need it to be touff, just need it to be good and have honor. The
Satelite JLA, the Avengers #141 and up, the Defenders, X-Men, F4,
the Superfriends comics. All adventure and heroes were not afraid to
be silly
Then the 80s came. I Love it Crisis, the 70s smiling Super Heroes in
the 1982 Style Guide by Garcia-Lopez, I loves the Superman books
by Byrne, Wonder Woman by Perez, keep lovin Batman by Aparo and
even loke the New Flash Wally. But something was lost...
I enjoyed the story of Watchmen but that is not exactly what I look in
comic books. In comics I want adventures, honor and heroes
respeting each other and even if Watchmen is Great story it is not
about what I enjoy in comics the most.
