Well, I've decided to stop adding to the Character Count. I started the list/graph to get an idea of who were the most popular characters, more or less in order, and after a few years of this, I think we have a pretty solid idea!

Each row has a maximum of 25 dots. From now on, I will periodically update this thread, not post an update to a new commission thread.

The arbitrary "rules" of who gets on and who doesn't remain the same!!

(On this chart, Marvel Girl, Phoenix and Dark Phoenix are listed separately. Since Phoenix was revealed to have NOT been the real Jean Grey, the Marvel Girl who appears in variants of the cover of X-MEN 137 is counted as Phoenix.)

Interesting to see Daredevil, my favourite character, ahead of characters that you are more known for like some of Alpha Flight and the X-men. (I wish you'd had more Daredevil work).

Is there a count for how many JLA, X-Men, Avengers, Alpha Flight, or
any other team pictures you have?

Only 49 crossovers. That still surprises me.

And only 5 more to go for a second line for Galactus. We'll have to work on that before the end of the world next year.

Always neat to see what people have requested.  We will see if any characters can catch Wolverine this year.

This is why I didn't lock this thread! It will be interesting as years (?) go by, to see how many of you accomplish your commission missions!

I instantly found favorite characters and starting ticking off commissions in my head.  Puck has been in mine, and this one, and Joe's, and this one...

My idea for a commision is a crossover. Just got to figure out a way to come up with the funds. ( Then permission from the wife to spend them in such a manner.)

One of the odd things about reviewing this listing is being reminded I did not draw Jean Grey, except for flashbacks, during my tenure on UNCANNY X-MEN. Thanks to a retcon (of my own engineering!) I drew only Phoenix in the form of Jean.

Never thought about your time on Uncanny as a retcon, new perspective there.

As for commissions, I have at least three crossovers I want to do. After we have our next vacation paid off, I'll be saving up for a new commission. It will be much easier to do from now on with a new refinance of my house, saving about $1200 a month! That ought to get me a commission or two!

I do enjoy seeing these counts, fun stuff.

On the other hand, how many comic artists could produce 49 TOTAL commissions given essentially any amount of time?  We're totally spoiled here at Byrne Central!

I plan on helping out some DC characters with their counts later in 2012!

Reminds me that I have not bothered to keep track of just how many commissions there have been, in total, since the first in '02. (Yikes! Nearly ten years? Really??)

It's also interest, to me, to look at this chart and see that I have done 55 commissions with Batman (to pick but one). It seems not so very long ago that I had not done ANY drawings of Batman in my professional career.

I used to keep track of all the commissions just for my own interest but the list became too cumbersome!  Fortunately the gallery is easy to navigate!  To help you begin your count JB....I've got ten of them in my basement! =0)

Hm....I'd love to see it.  How many characters created by JB have made the count?

Terrax, Nova, Kitty, Alpha Flight (nine characters)...who'd I miss?

Teaser:  my #2 commission idea for 2012 will prominently feature a JB created character not yet on the count list!  Mwa-ha-ha!

Since I require a minimum of three appearances in commissions before getting on the Chart (an exception having been made for Marrina and Talisman, since the rest of Alpha Flight was represented), that may take a while. So far only Danger Unlimited have made it onto a commission, from my creator-owned stuff, and there only one.

(I settled on a minimum of three appearances so that the list would not become too ponderous.)
