Defending sex and violence in Marvel Comics, Tom Breevort states, "But make no mistake, one of the fundamental appeals of comics, and Marvel comics in particular, is the fact that they’re dangerous. They’re edgy. There’s an aura of the illicit to what we do that’s extremely attractive to our audience..."

I've long thought that anyone who describes their product--be it comic
book, television show, film, whatever--as "edgy" to be too full of themselves
for their own good.

Thomas I would agree.

"Dangerous?"

No wonder sales are in the toilet.  Marvel lost me except for reprints, and odd issues here and there (with a favorite artist or writer), a long time ago.

Shame he is one of the head muckity mucks, however, Breevort is always good for some comic relief with his comments.

I'm no longer really surprised by comments like this.  This tells me that Breevort and his cohorts are fully insulated from the general audiences, and wholly focused only on a smaller clique infatuated with their "edginess".

"Hey, I've got an idea! Let's make comics that push the boundaries of good taste and aren't appropriate for anyone under the age of 18 without supervision. That way, we can corner the same market as that of R-Rated action films. Those always do WAY better at the Box Office than All Ages fare like Toy Story, Shrek, Ice Age, Tangled, and Madagascar. Plus, comics aren't the only ones changing with the times; look at classic Disney fare like Snow White, Bambi, and Dumbo compared with the increased violence, gore, and sexuality of their recent hits like Princess and the Frog, Lilo and Stitch, and The Emperor's New Groove. Comics need to change like everything else to maintain the interest of their audience!"

Heck, if Beevoot's books were actually "dangerous", "illict" or "attractive", I'd be happily reading them! They're as boring as watching paint dry, age, crack, peel ...
