No letters pages in the Thor or DD omnibi.It is very interesting to read the old letters pages that are included in the FF ones though. I must ad that it is taking me ages to read the Thor one,just wallowing in Walt`s art and the beautiful new colour job.

The extras on these collections are hit and miss.  Some have a lot, others only letters pages, the rest nothing.  I preordered the CAPTAIN AMERICA Omnibus because of this, from the solicit:

"And as if every story and every letters page wasn't enough, we're topping it off with an in-depth visual analysis of Jim Steranko's legendary Cap run by no less than Steranko himself! It's Comics 101 by one of the medium's greatest innovators! 'Nuff Said!"

Extras like these tend to get me to plunk down the $$.  That said, I'll be getting JB's FF Omnibus because I only own the originals.  Never picked up the Visionaries collection for this very reason and because they are insanely expensive.

MIght get one, even though I've got the original issues hardbound.

Will probably wait and see what the "early adopters" say about the colors,
paper, et alia.

the FF ones though.
++++

I was disappointed that the 2 volumes didn't contain the whole Lee-Kirby
run. Where's vol. 3? What a swindle!

Does somebody know if there are plans for a Uncanny X-Men Omnibus #2 with the rest of Byrne's run? If the answer is total no, I won't wait anymore to buy the Dark Phoenix Omnibus. What do you think about this Omnibus? Reproduction Quality? Extra materials?

Marvel usually ties these to the release of upcoming films based on the characters. I suspect an Uncanny Omnibus 2 will come out in a few years.

*******

The Dark Phoenix Saga 30th Anniversary hardback is wonderful to me - the trade has been a favorite to read over the years, and the printing on this new hardback looks fantastic.

It's not an Omnibus - it's as tall as an Omnibus, but it clocks in at around 350 pages.  It features Uncanny X-Men 129-138, and also a "Classic X-Men" Claremont story, the Bizzarre Adventures Claremont/John Buscema Phoenix story, the "Untold Story" featuring the original ending, and Mary Jo Duffy's "What If?"

I love that this includes #138 - it always bugged me that each trade excluded the funeral.  That never made sense to me and that alone makes this a superior collection.

Best of all the bonus features, it has JB and Terry Austin B&W art in the back.  It's scans of eight original art pages/covers.  The dialogue on some of the pages were done on overlay, so the pages don't have balloons.  Stunning to see, and a harbinger of things to come!

And a nice bonus for those of us who collected the trades - it has all of the trade cover art.  And the "Classic X-Men" covers, which is a nice nod to those who first read this in reprint

To finish JB and Terry Austin's run, you have to pick up the X-Men "Days of Future Past" trade paperback.  The only hardback on that is Marvel Masterworks, which I don't have.

I received the Thor (Walter Simomson) Omnibus today. This is my first purchase of an Omnibus Marvel Comic and let me say that I am truly impressed.

I collected the original Simonson Thor run during the 80's and it's been a while since I read these comics.

This book will be required reading on the deck and at the beach this summer.

I'm hoping that whenever JB's Fantastic Four is published, it gets the same treatment as this Omnibus

This remains my favorite JB return to the saga.

My favorite JB Jean Grey.

But damn the eyes of whoever plastered that Watcher on the corner!

I can't vouch for the accuracy, but I came across this issue list for the Omnibus.

Marvel Team-Up (1972) #61-62;
Marvel Two-In-One #50;
Fantastic Four (1961) #215-218, #220-221, #232-262 and Annual #17;
Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #42;
Avengers (1963) #233;
Thing (1983) #2; and
Alpha Flight (1983) #4.

This will be my first time really digging into some of these only having dabbled in JB's FF before.  How does this list compare with the Visionaries books? More/less? To a novice, this is looking like a pretty impressive list.
