Michael, are you, by any chance, related to the revered Gil Kane?  He was a true master whose pencils many of today's so-called "artists" are not fit to sharpen.

Kane's last major works SUPERMAN: DISTANT FIRES and THE

I used to study comic art with a guy who apprenticed with Kane for a while in the early 70's and he said kane would 'warm up' with these anatomy sketches and he would sometimes use an old Captain Action figure that he drew the muscles on to set up a page layout. Don't know how much of the Captain Action stuff is true but it sounds feasible.

Gil Kane was responsible for some of the biggest disappointments of my childhood. I constantly found myself buying comics with jaw-droppingly vibrant covers featuring characters in absurdly dynamic poses, only to open them to find the interior art didn't even come close to living up to the promise of the cover.

Nobody could get me as excited to read a book as Kane.

As a kid, I couldn't stand his work. His distinct faces and anatomy were real turn-offs to this Byrne and Austin fan. Now, within the last few years, I absolutely CAN NOT get enough of his stuff. Still looking for the SAVAGE book. He's rapidly becoming top 5 favorite for me.

I mean just LOOK at the stuff posted in this thread!!!!!

Brian was the Gil Kane SAVAGE the Parker adaptation?  Lee Marvin cover? I had that but haven't seen it around in years.

The Kane studies are great.  I'd love to find a book full of them for a reference.  I have Hogarth's books but they're not as good.  Anyone have any recommendations?

Yeah!  That's it.  I'd have thought with Darwyn Cooke doing the Parker novels someone would re-release that.  Did Kane do the cover?

Thanks.
