References flow the other way. 2112, you may recall, began its existence as a completely separate entity from NEXT MEN.

* * *

Always been intrigued by the reference to Bethany in 2112.  Assume it is a Bethany rather than our blonde bombshell.

It's a clear indication about how wonderful the JBNM characters are that I feel so upset to see them in dire straits!

I have faith that the storyline will be resolved.  In the meantime, JB is appropriately playing with my heartstrings as I see the greatest "real life" heroes of my youth being tortured!

Before I read NEXT MEN if you had told me my favorite character of a super-hero team would be the non-powered member I would have thought you nuts, but Tony has really grown on me.

What a great character, I'm really enjoying her journey. I'm not sure she is though. Ugh, what hard times she's fallen on. The rest of the teams not doing so hot either, but her story really speaks to me. Looking forward to the next issue.

Bethany actually would be one hell of a blond bombshell if dropped on a target from a high enough altitude!

I remember JB mentioned in the 34/4 thread that since childhood, one of his greatest fears was to end up in an iron lung and dependent on machines to breathe for him.

For me, because of my birth defect of being legally blind in my left eye, one of my great fears has always been to lose my good eye, or projected on to other people to lose one or both eyes.

The stuff that's happened to Nathan has me shivering.

As for Zeb, nothing bad that happens to him could be too cruel.

I always assumed that was a different Bethany.

Well, for people like Zebediah, the thought that the Confederate cause was lost and that he'd have to free his slaves would be humiliation enough.  The old bastard probably encouraged his sons to take to forming a Klan group in order to take it out on 'em.  That's basically what the Klan was (vengeful ex-Confederates seeking a means of taking out their anger at losing the war and having their slaves freed at the expense of those freed slaves).

That humiliation would be sufficient justice for Zebediah's actions?

I don't think so. And if you believe he'll "probably" encourage his sons to form a "Klan group in order to take it out on 'em" -- I don't see sufficient justice AT ALL!

Beth was buried in lava for 238 years.

The 'alternate' events of JBNM 34 probably occurred around the year 2000 (roughly the time setting of the 1st series).

Beth should have woken up in the year 2238.

If Gil & Co come from the year 2147 is it because they managed to control the 'time flow' ie slowing it down?

Joss, I would think that's a little bit of over analyzing. Why the need to peg down every bit of minutia? Have fun with it and don't get caught up in trying to "fix" the story so it fits into a nice neat package.

Ride the wave buddy!

This is a legitimate question. Many have noticed this voluntary 'discrepancy' on JB's part.
