The first page I bought was a Steve Dillon Preacher page:

Still own it!

My first page was from Marvel: The Lost Generation #12(1). Don't have a scan of it but it is the page where Pixie and Oxbow discover the wounded Black Fox.

Excellent question. I can't recall which was my first, because once I got the bug, they came in a flurry. I think a convention in the early 90's was the scene of my first buying spree, and I got pages from several artists all on the same day. One of the most memorable pages, and maybe the first, who knows, was the title page from Battlestar Galatica #11, by Walt Simonson and Klaus Janson.

Dan, that is QUITE an acquisition! Wow!

I was given a a couple of pages by friends doing house cleaning (a Mignola/Perez page from...I think...ACTION COMICS and a HUMAN FLY page by Frank Robbins) but the first page I paid money for was a Sal Buscema NOVA page inked, I believe, by Frank Giacoia. It's framed and hanging in my living room. I don't have a scan, unfortunately. Soon after, I had a shot at a beautiful NOVA page inked by Tom Palmer but got outbid. I still kick myself for not going higher.

How about the rest of you collectors? Do you still have/remember your first piece of original comicbook art?

For the life of me, I can't remember which came first -- four pages I bought from Ed Hannigan at a local comic book store or three pages I bought at Comicfest 93 in Philadelphia.

I have three of the four pages I bought from Ed:

Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21, Page 17
Marvel Team-Up Annual #5 Cover
What If #35 Cover

... and two of the three pages I bought in Philly:

Starbrand #17, Page 20
Starbrand #18, Page 18

Same day almost 20 years ago, I bought a page of Starlin art from Doctor Strange #26, and a page of She-Hulk #39 directly from the artist, whats-his-name.  Still have the former; the latter I was forced to sell during a rough patch.

I don't have a picture handy (though I probably have a picture somewhere), and I sold it about a year ago, but the first page I ever bought was "Green Lantern" page by Joe Staton, c.1980

The first page I ever got was from the Amalgam book - Amazon by JB.  It's a great two panel page of Ororo in Poseidon's treasure chamber.

My fist page was from Steve Rude's Mr. Miracle Special.

I got it framed and hanging next to my drawing table.
I don't have a scan of it but it shows Darkseid proclaming "It'll be done and it'll be done on time!". For me is a nice reminder of how I love deadlines.

Question for John Byrne:

What's the story behind why you bought the Russ Heath, Sgt. Rock piece?  Are you a big fan of Russ Heath's work, or that particular comic book...?

Just curious.
