I was reading a relatively recent interview with Rogern Stern about the character, and he mentions how you were very curious about his identity (but Roger wouldn't reveal that tidbit, despite you spilling the beans to him about Alpha Flight 12). A few questions:
1) Who was your guess for the Hobgoblin's secret identity?
2) If you would've been asked to write the Hobgoblin 'reveal' storyline, how would you have handled it?
3) It's unfortunate that 'mysteries' in today's comics (that aren't spoiled) are so rare. Is there a particular storyline or panel that really shocked/surprised you, since it was completely unexpected?
Thanks in advance!

I asked Roger ONCE who he had in mind for Hobgoblin. He declined to tell me, and I gave the matter no further thought.

Is it true that Ditko wanted the Green Goblin to be a completely unknown person? I always thought that would´ve made a nice fit for the Hobgoblin.

Is it true that Ditko wanted the Green Goblin to be a completely unknown person?•• As I understand it, yes. I wonder if that would have worked? I played something like that hand with DeWitt in ARMOR WARS II in IRON MAN, and for years after I was being asked who he "really was".

He and Lee also did that once or twice in their run - once with Electro (the Shocker, maybe?) and another time that I can't quite recall. A hat trick with the Goblin would have been too familiar in its own way.

The Green Goblin seeking to rule the underworld was much more interesting to me than Norman Osborn´s seasonal insanity bout vendetta against Peter Parker. ---------- It's weird because the Green Goblin is one of my favorite villains, and I like Norman Osborn in the role... But yeah, the "clues" leading up to who Green Goblin was certainly didn't fit with Osborn, and they definitely changed gears with the character once they revealed who he was.

Not to mention the current Norman Osborn, a.k.a. Lex Luthor...

I thought the Hobgoblin should just have been Ned Leeds.
