I wonder if they will fare better than the original Atlas-Seaboard comics from the 1970's?

Huh, I wondered who held the copyright to all those Atlas characters and stories.  So the Goodman family still owns them.

Atlas was such a mixed bag.  A few of their books were very well-done.  Some were fun in a cheesy, MST3K kind of way.  But many were just  blatant copies of other characters or concepts.  One thing they deserve credit for is being ahead of the curve on grim-n-gritty... the majority of their "heroes" were morally ambiguous anti-heroes.

Grim Ghost was one of the better titles, though fairly derivative of Michael Fleisher's earlier work on the Spectre.  It would be so cool if they would get Ernie Colon to draw some new stories, but I'm sure that's just a pipe dream.  No doubt they'll get some slick young artist instead.

This great news.  I enjoyed those comics...a lot.  I really did. They had some great talent working for them.  I do have a complete set of all of the Atlas titles; albeit there were not that many comics.  But still; it sure makes for great reading.

Wonder if they'll offer proportionally larger page-rates so that they can gather some of the top talent in the industry, like they did when they started the line in the 70s, or if they're just dusting these off so that they can market them thru TV and movies?

I used to have most of 'em; bought 'em right off the stands.  Some were pretty good; some were a bit bizarre, but I enjoyed 'em.
It'll be interesting to see who they'll get to work on 'em now - there are still a few old pros out there, and some severely underworked, relatively young pros, as well!
Now that Howard Chaykin seems to be back in comics, maybe he'd like to put his Scorpion right!
Would you have any interest in writing and/or drawing any of these books, JB?  The Destructor?  Morlock 2001 (hmm...they'll hafta update that a few years!)  Planet of the Vampires?  The Brute?  The Phoenix?  Ironjaw?  Wulf?  The Cougar?  I really believe you could make any of 'em into books worth following!

So much for my plans when I win the lottery...

Not liking that new look for the Phoenix. Of the line, he was my favorite of them.

I may be about the only person that actually liked the superhero version of the Scorpion. Always figured that there was room for both considering one was modern day and the other of the 1930s.

Ed, what "new look for the Phoenix"?  I don't see any images on the link Matt posted.

I don't think I'm familiar with any of the Atlas characters, but since the Big
Two aren't producing superhero comics that I enjoy on a regular basis,
maybe I'll take a look.

I wonder is this is related to Marvel's Atlas ending?
