As I recall, he was super strong. The character was less about powers than about being hideously ugly -- we would never see him out of the suit, unless it was in a dark room, heavily shadowed. I wanted to play with a couple of things there -- one, that mutation could have a very negative effect on what an individual looked like, and second, that Kitty would react very differently to Caliban than she did to Kurt. You may recall that she was very uncomfortable around Nightcrawler (which gives special significance to the scene in "Days of Future Past" when Kate, in Kitty's body, hugs him). She would not be uncomfortable with Caliban, however, as his deformity was so great he was, to her, more akin to a bird with a broken wing, as opposed to Kurt who was, again, to her, freakish.Unfortunately, altho he was on board for all this, after the hug, Chris promptly forgot about it. Kate was okay with Nightcrawler, so from then on so was Kitty. Since Caliban was not introduced before I left, it didn't matter, ultimately, I suppose.

That is a much more interesting angle than the one he eventually used for Caliban. Sounds like it would have been fun.

That's kind of weird. Yesterday in D&D, our group encountered a ravid, a creature that animates lifeless objects with "positive energy."

This Caliban reminds me of Quislet from the Legion in abilities and having a "vessel" to ride around in. Anybody know if this is just coincidence?

Quislet was a Legionnaire during the Levitz run in the mid-80's.

After my X-Days, then. Not that it matters, since I haven't read anything to do with the Legion since, oh, 1958!

Oh, I've been wanting to point this out... I really like Destiny's reaction to Logan and Kate! That was a fun scene to find -- pretty cool, JB!

JB, Do you have a favorite story from your X-Men run? Also: Is there a character you wished you would have gotten around to using while you were on X-Men? (I remember you saying you wished you would have had the chance to use Super Skrull during your FF run...)

Do you have a favorite story from your X-Men run?•• As the run progressed, I took on more and more of the plotting, eventually leading Chris to complain (perhaps too strong a word) that he was "losing control". Which was ironic, really, since my principle reason for quitting the book was that / could not control HIM! Stuff I plotted so very rarely ended up being what I intended, by the time Chris was done with it. Which means, yes, I have favorite stories -- but mostly they are in my head, not what you read in the book! ==== Also: Is there a character you wished you would have gotten around to using while you were on X-Men? (I remember you saying you wished you would have had the chance to use Super Skrull during your FF run...) •• I was sorry we didn't find a way to use the Vanisher. Seriously! As a kid I found him so CREEPY!
