You mean George Reeves. I found myself briefly wondering how I could have missed a Steve Reeves Superman film.

And Steve had a good build for any decade.

And since we've invoked two TV incarnations of superheroes, thought I'd post this painting. Stumbled across it with a Google search:

Whoops!  My mistake -- a consistant one, too.  At least they're from the same era!

Steve Reeves was a bodybuilder back in the "natural" days.  Look at those classic lines!

Maybe the 70's Spider-man TV show had more influence than we imagined

Steve kinda makes George look a little less "super" by comparison

I actually liked the SUPERMAN RETURNS costume.
Well, except for it was a little too dark, the cape looked rubbery, the boots weren't high enough and he was wearing a speedo and had the S shield on his belt...that and the S shield was way too small.

Ok, maybe I didn't like it.

I think it was a good idea that was poorly, poorly executed.

That and there was no golden "S" shield on the back of the cape. There has to be a golden S on the back of the cape. Otherwise...it's just a red cape that anyone can wear.

Yep...gotta have the S on the cape.

The absence of the S from the cape was "justified" by Springer as making it easier for CGI animation. This, despite the countless CGI flags, banners, and all manner of other patterned cloth we see in movies, TV shows and commercials.

The real reason, as with everything else in that movie, was perhaps more in this direction…

Thank you guys for putting the song Sweet Transvestite from the Rocky Horror Picture Show in my head with the Steve Reeves reference.

So let me show you around, maybe play you a sound
You look like you're both pretty groovy
Or if you want something visual that's not too abysmal
We could take in an old Steve Reeves movie

Computer imagery are used for capes and carpets, that's what it can do. In Aladdin an advanced kalligrafi was used insead of a simpler design that they would have used if they hadn't used computers.

Certainly it was the first place to literalize the "lenses" over Spider-Man's eyes. Not a good idea, I thought, but it seems to have caught on.
