Is there a Super-Hero or Super-Heroine with a former costume you liked better than their current one?  I liked Red Tornado's original costume 200% better than what came after it.

Iron Man -

Hank Pym -

Thor -

Luke Cage -

Original X-Men -

While Marvel likes to tinker with their costumes way to much, DC seems to get most of their classic characters right I must admit.

Those original X-Men uniforms were great! Every change for them has been to the worse, I have no idea what they were thinking we they gave the Angel this costume.

Never cared for the updates to BC's costumes.  The current mishmash

is ugly.

I was definitely a fan of Hank Pym's Yellowjacket and the original Luke Cage Powerman.  They suited the era in which they were introduced (late 1960s and mid-1970s).  At least in the former, it was a timeless design.

There was something that I loved about Storm's original costume.  That's one look that really could've come back.  Other designs which I liked:

  • Polaris's original design (late 1960s)
  • Havock's original design (late 1960s)
  • The Beast's "Blue Furry Ape" look (1970s, not exactly a costume but I'm just partial to the handsome jokester Hank McCoy of the era)
  • Colossus
  • Nightcrawler

Marvel has a rather troublesome history of coming up with some vivid original costume designs, and then trashing them in favor of some "updated" look.  For God's sake, man!  I see nothing wrong with a character sporting skin-tight jumpsuits with no pouches or saddlebags attached.

Captain Britain!

Loved the "Lionheart" theme.
The Union Jack design is ok...but, I love this costume.

Actually really liked it when the female Captain Britain joined the Avengers in the costume.
(What happened to her anyway?)

I also loved Captain Britain's original costume. So much so that I had JB include it in my OHOTMU homage commission a while ago!

Does the Silver Age Green Lantern uniform count as "defunct", or has DC finally corrected that silly "I forgot to put my trunks on" look?

She's now called Lionheart and appeared in New Excalibur, but hasn't been seen since the title was cancelled as far as I know.

Still counts as "defunct", Mr. Byrne.

That little montage of Wasp shots demonstrates all too well one of the principle things that went wrong with the character. Janet is supposed to be a fashion designer, and one of the top in her field. Alas, most comicbook artists are (a) male and (b) clueless when it comes to fashion. After beginning with the simple, clean design Kirby gave her, Jan's costumes became increasingly impractical.
