Saying Wasp was "killed by Thor" is misleading: she was going to explode because the Skrulls had made her into a human bomb that could take out all of New York. Thor acted to contain the explosion. It's still not a good story and would certainly qualify as "tragedy porn", but her death was caused by villains, not a long time friend.

I like the article.  I hope the term "superhero tragedy porn" takes hold and is diminished greatly because of it.  It would be unfortunate to have kids learn the term--but are kids actually buying comics anymore, anyway?

At least the tragedy pornographers work with proofreaders. Though I'm sure I mostly agree with its premise, that article was impossible to get through.

Once more, with feeling: "Good... GOD!!"

I am glad to have stayed away from these things.

Calling that stuff "tragedy porn" is giving porn a bad name.  10 monstrously endowed men banging away at some excited barely legal nymphette with daddy issues and a coke habit is classier than some of the stuff that's happened in comics these last years.

I think. Of course, being a decent upstanding citizen, I've never actually watched porn, especially not that type of porn. Nope. Not me. I swoon at the sight of a bare ankle. Honest.

No, but they don't have the money.  My boy does check out trades and graphic novels from the library though. At 8, he loves them. But he would rather save and spend his money on Legos. I wish it was comics, they don't hurt nearly as much when you step on them in the dark on the way to the bathroom.

I think that a lot of kids don`t even know what comic books are, and will not unless or until Marvel and DC get their books back into regular stores and out of just the comic shops.  As long as the comic book stores have a monopoly on the product little "Timmy" will never even encounter comic books.

Bunkum...

I had money as a kid...allowance and what-not...I assume that today's (Potential) audience is the same way.  The sad truth is that the producers of today;s comic books, for the most part, are not interested in the much larger and self regenerating demographic of kids 9-14.  they are aiming at an insular and shrinking market of much older children...19-40.  They fool themselves into thinking they are writing "relevant" or "mature" comics.

Heh...I just reminded myself that Hollywood did at least get one thing right in relation to Comic-Book movies...if you aim for 9-13 year olds you are going to make a lot more money.

The "Bone" books have done very well among a much younger audience so children do have an interest in comics; however, the industry (for the most part) has no interest in them.

IDK if it was the delays because I read it as it came out. But honestly, past the great cow race, I lost all interest in Bone. Still, I'm glad it's successful since it might encourage someone just as talented to top it.
