I wish Shooter was still writing Legion comics.  Not so fond of his work as an editor.

I thought Jim Shooter did return to write LoSH back in '07. Lasted about a year and then the book was cancelled.

You're right, he did.  I meant I wish it hadn't been canceled and he was still writing it, it was pretty good.  Even more than that, I wish he'd been able to write the real Legion, rather than being saddled with the lame threeboot version.  Having to write a reboot version that readers had already rejected, his comeback never really had a chance.  Bringing back Shooter to the Legion but then having him write a reboot continuity nobody likes is like hiring Clapton to be in your band and having him play clarinet.

Not having an "in" to the Legion outside of the Johns' written material in JLA/JSA, Action Comics, and Adventure Comics, just how stoked should I be for the return of Levitz this year?

Honestly, I'm quite anxious to finally be introduced to the team properly and to have a chance to grow into a fan of them - because they look like a cool group of characters to know!

Some Legion fans view Levitz as the best Legion writer ever but I'm not one of them.  His stories were all right, but for me Shooter was the man.  Many people love Letvitz's 80's run, but I think he made the mistake of aging and changing the characters far too much, taking them too far away from the original concept of super-powered teens in an idealized future.  He left the group in a state where they almost had to be rebooted, but neither reboot captured the old magic and neither one took.

Hrrrmmm...

Well, in this the modern age of Hardcover collections, I guess it's only a matter of time before the Shooter run is collected in Omnibus form. I would guess the Levitz run might come first in that regard, since he's spear-heading the TWO Legion titles later this year, but since they're gaining prominence everything Legion will probably be fair game within the next couple of years.

Just like no matter how bad the Captain America movie is, we know that around its release the first Cap Omnibus will be printed, so too does a more prominent focus on the Legion dictate an increased mining of past material for new collections!

I wouldn't hire Quesada to run a Dairy Queen.

I know there's better than Quesada out there - but hire a guy RIGHT NOW, and who is that guy?

Roger would not take the job.

So the question should not be Who would be better than Quesada, but Who would want the job and be better than Quesada.

(Incidentally, before it flitters thru anybody's mind, / would not be the answer to that question, either.)

Meanwhile, since Shooter, there has been no EIC who has resigned... they've ALL been fired.

••

I don't recall DeFalco being fired.

Roger would not take the job

Disappointing -- he understands what makes all the characters tick...

Would Kurt Busiek want the job?

Would you want Marvel transformed into an impenetrable fanboy paradise?
