CGC 9.0 Incredible Hulk #1 Sells for $100,000

Following last week’s record-breaking sale of a CGC-certified 9.2 copy of Incredible Hulk #1 at Heritage Auction Galleries for $125,475, Pedigree Comicshas just reported another landmark transaction involving the jadegiant’s first issue with a sale of a CGC-certified 9.0 copy for$100,000.

The sale was completed on Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

Pedigree Comics President and CEO Doug Schmell negotiated thetransaction between the seller and buyer and both sides "are extremelyhappy," he said.

“This is the nicest 9.0 copy I have ever seen (I've seen three ofthem) and actually rivals the Northland 9.2 copy I used to own instructure and appearance. This copy has off-white to white pages and isthe glossiest Hulk #1 I've ever seen. Plus, it is perfectly centered, which was a major negotiating point in completing the sale,” he said.

“The buyer made the trip to my office to personally inspect thebook and he was very pleased with the its overall appearance. Aftersome back and forth phone calls to the consignor and haggling with thebuyer, a price of $100,000 was agreed upon, far eclipsing the previousrecord for a Hulk #1 in 9.0 of $45,000 set in July, 2006, and just short of the overall record price for an Incredible Hulk #1 reached this past weekend at auction.”

And some previous owner had porridge for lunch and left a big stain.

I certainly wouldn't mind being the owner of a copy of Incredible Hulk #1, but that much money for a slabbed book is asinine.  I have a copy of X-Men #1 and I've read it.

CGC rating is the greatest ploy on stupid people ever devised.

My brother used to have a copy that he bought new, when I was a little boy he traded it away, I should send him a link to this.

What does "Northland 9.2" mean here. Is it a rating like CGC?

This was worth it for the buyer and that's all that matters.

Slabbed, it ain't worth a dime. Would YOU buy something you could not
personally examine?

It's like buying a vintage car, and then having it delivered in your driveway encased in a big block of lucite.
