THE WRONG BOX (1966)

Delicious black comedy stuffed to bursting with every working British character actor alive at the time. Peter Sellers is oddly poignant in his role as a “venal doctor”.

(Incidentally, this one side steps my usual demands for fidelity to source by using the credit line “inspired by” rather than “based on”. I wish more “adaptations” would do the same.)

"SO good"

...

Yes it is!
And so is the one coming on now. KEY LARGO (1948)
A top favorite of mine . Bacall's eyes! I cannot imagine ever have meeting her in person then, I would just be a blubbering mess.

I’M ALL RIGHT JACK (1959)

Droll and very British comedy observing the state of that Nation in the Fifties. Probably impenetrable to most people outside the British Isles, but worth the effort if you can find a way in. Like THE WRONG BOX, employs just about every character actor of the time.

THE GREAT ESCAPE (1963)

Coaxed by discussion of HOGAN’S HEROES in another thread, I popped in this perennial favorite and basically basked in its familiarity.

Surfed into the last 20 minutes or so of GROSSE POINT BLANK (1997), and as usual could not leave.

THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING (2019)

Such a good, fun kids' film... an undeserved box office dud this past January, I really hope it gets rediscovered over the next few years and at least gets a nice little cult following.  Irreverent, but smart.

LAST CRUSADE is a fun ride, and benefits enormously from NOT being TEMPLE OF DOOM!
