It just occurred to me that I've never seen Batman drawn by Jack Kirby. I'm sure he did at some point, right?

Didn't he draw him in the Super Powers mini? I'd have to look again.

Kirby drew Batman in SUPER POWERS. I have the pencils for one issue.
Unfortunately, he never quite seemed to "meld" with the character, as he'd
so successfully done with others he'd not had a hand in creating. There was
always something "off" about Jack's take on Batman.

In addition to covers, Kirby did the interior art for issue five of the first Super Powers mini-series and the interior art for the second Super Powers mini-series. He had nothing to do with the third Super Powers mini-series.

Derek beat me to it. So he ended up drawing Batman at in at least 7 books.

It's hard to believe that Kirby didn't draw Batman until the 80's! But there it is.

He drew Batman on a COMIC READER cover which I think came out in
the late 1970s, tho I would not put money on it. It was the first time I
noticed he didn't "get" Batman. What he drew was cool in a "What If Kirby
Created Batman" kind of way, but it was not Batman.

How can somebody like Kirby not get Batman or anyone else? The same could be asked of Neal Adams' Thing, which has been brought up in other threads. What happens (or fails to) in such unspeakably great artists that something key in a given character is lacking?

I think this is due to the fact is that Jack Kirby was one an editor would call if he wanted two planets to collide in a story. Jack Kirby to me always seemed like a cosmic story teller, not one that an editor would call for an detective who done it type of story.

Super Powers was the first Jack Kirby I read, though incomplete. I liked it and it had sort of the same vibe as JB's Superman in Fourth World crossover. It was not a detective story but Batman within JLA. The colors were a little dark (?). I want to purchase it again, I don't have it. Perhaps JB wants to send me the originals :) There were 2 mini series (??) volume 1 and volume 2 which I noticed when I got home with my as I thought "complete" series. I want a complete showcase volume.
