Kirby may have had the Kirby Krackle, but the Byrne/Austin team were not too shabby either! (Loved the background effects around Storm - started way back in issue 108!)

Hey Ferran, that original Arcade page looks like it has been colored for print.
Just curious because I always thought they colored comics back then by watercoloring reduced photo copies and then writing the printing color tone of
the shade of the color they want printed. (Often that was the reason say Superman might have a coloring mistake, like say blue britches, not because the colorist painted it that way but because the code got mixed up with the code for his pants and shirt). Just curious looks awesome.

Ah yes Thanos I have my copy of 122 and it is different coloring. Those old JB X-Men splashes at the end of the issue were real cliff hangers for me. It was the only series that I was impatient for the next issue. I still go back and read them to this day. Thats when you know that you have a good comic. Anything that can last like that is pure genius in my opinion.

It seems that Oliff colored many originals back in the 80s at request of the
owners. While I admire Steve's skills, it's a sacrilege to color directly on the
artwork, and specially on this fondly remembered page.

There is a distinct break in reality when it comes to original art. I have told
stories of being frustrated when acting as the auctioneer at MidOhioCon's
charity auction, as a "limited edition" diecast SPAWNMobile (1 of 5000) would
got for hundred upon hundreds of dollars, while a Curt Swan SUPERMAN page
would barely scrape up $25.
Easily the most grotesque example comes from about 20 years ago, when
Roger Price was briefly acting as my art agent. He was at a con with a pile of
my pages on his table, and someone came over to look thru them. The guy
protested that the prices were too high (they weren't). Roger told him if he
could find the same page for less anywhere at the con, he would beat that
price. The guy went off in search of the bargain pages.
When we see the tales of "collectors" we don't want originals that have white-
out or editorial blue pencil or paste-ups or any of the normal processes
that go into making a page, and when we add to them people who get the
pages colored on the originals, we are left with the depressing
realization that some people Just Don't Get It.
We're also left with original artwork that is, in the case of the colored pieces,
effectively destroyed.
