It's hard to pick a favourite cover of all time (so many to choose from), but the cover to SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #101 would definitely be in my Top Five or Top Three.
Thank you, Mr. Byrne for this cover. There is so much that is great about it and if it didn't persuade anyone to buy the comic, well they must just have had no money in their pocket that day.
To think, there's no supervillain on the cover. No fight. Yet it succeeds on so many levels. One thing that is great is the attention to detail in the buildings, the lights on the different floors are great.
I think what really makes this cover work for me, though, is that it just sums up how fun Spider-Man's world is. It's awe-inspiring, to be honest. I mean, Spider-Man may have many problems in his life, but on a positive note, who wouldn't want to be that high up, free as a bird, swinging across the rooftops of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The cover has that "I wish I was Spider-Man" feel to it. It's fun, it makes Spider-Man look fun, it makes comics look fun and it has that "Buy Me Now" feel to it. Like I said, it succeeds on so many levels.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on this cover?
