I've been reading the biography of Charles Schulz and the Complete Peanuts series.  The amount of work that he put out is amazing.  It got me wondering.  I know quite a few of you collect original artwork from comic books and their creators but does anyone collect artwork from comic strips and their creators?

Altho the bulk of my collection is from comicbooks, I have several pieces from the strips. Five Sundays, a TERRY AND THE PIRATES by George Wundar; a DICK TRACY by Chester Gould (one of the last he worked on himself); a SKY MASTERS by Jack Kirby and Wally Wood; a STAINLESS STEEL by Russell Stamm (a spinoff from INVISIBLE SCARLET O'NEIL)*; and a POGO by Walt Kelly.

Dailies, I have an ABBIE 'n' SLATS by Raeburn van Buren; a BRINGING UP FATHER by George McManus (published in 1940, it's the oldest piece in my collection); an ALLEY OOP by V.T. Hamlin; a RIP KIRBY by Alex Raymond; a PEANUTS by Charles Schulz; two JULIET JONES strips by Stan Drake; and two GARTH dailies by Frank Bellamy.

Also, a small curio, a SUPERMAN "daily" done by Wally Wood for a MAD parody about comic strips appearing in different magazines and adopting their editorial stance.

(Published weekly, in tabloid format, the DAN DARE and HEROS THE SPARTAN pieces -- two of each -- I have probably count as "strips" by the American definition.)

* If this rings no bells, don't feel bad. I had vaguely heard of INVISIBLE SCARLET O'NEIL, but I had no knowledge of STAINLESS STEEL until this piece was given to me by one of my Ex's friends as a wedding present. (He also had a real treasure, a cel from GERALD McBOING-BOING, which he promised to "leave" to me. Alas, he died without making the necessary provisions in his will!)

I have a Chester Gould Dick Tracy daily from ~1962.  Just realized I don't have a scan of it.  I should correct that!

My only original from the strips is a 1935 Thimble Theatre by Segar.

No original dailies in my collection...YET...Dick Locher has promised me a few things, but all in good time!

I'd KILL a good friend to get a MacNelly SHOE daily.

I'm toying with the idea of buying an original FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE for a young lady whom I'm courting, but not sure if that particular investment would be worth it or not.

Last summer I did get hold in my hands the very first DICK TRACY DAILY from October 1931.  THAT was cool.

Let's see--a Sy Barry Phantom daily, inscribed to me by Lee Falk; a
Kirby/Wood Skymaster's Daily, five or six On Stage dailies by Leonard
Starr,
plus two On Stage Sunday's and an Annie Sunday, a Gil Kane Star Hawks,
a
Gus Arriola Gordo Sunday, a Curt Swan/Stan Kaye Superman daily, an
Infantino Batman daily, several Paul Ryan Phantom dailies, a Walt Scott
Little
Folks Sunday, a Bellamy Garth daily, a Holdaway Modesty Blaise daily, a
Tuska Superfriends, a van Buren Abbie & Slats daily, a Robbins Johnny
Hazzard Sunday, a Stan Drake Heart of Juliet Jones Sunday, and two Ken
Bald Sundays, a Dr. Kildare and a Dark Shadows. Finally, my most recent
acquisition (still unpaid and on the
credit card)--Milton Caniff's Terry and the Pirates Sunday for February
28,
1943, featuring Terry and Flip Corkin, my favorite of the (male) Terry
supporting cast. Burma would be my favorite of the females, but a Burma
Sunday would, I have no doubt, be beyond my means.

Whoops--and an Alley Oop Sunday by VTHamlin, although late enough in
his career that I suspect much of it is by his assistant.

Are comic strips generally less expensive to buy compared to a page?  Do yo buy them from dealer or the artist themselves?
