I have fond memories related to MTU, I liked a lot the Ross Andru and Gil
Kane early stories, plus : it's the book (alongside Iron fist) where I
discovered that new guy by the name of Byrne.
I always tought he was a good fit to Spider-man, hey I even recently
completed my Byrne's MTU (previously I only had the french versions).
Still a lot of fun !

The series was a mixed bag. Sometimes the book was really good and sometimes it was pretty rough. Sometimes the dip in quality would be one issue away from each other. I didn't collect it regularly like I did Amazing or Spectacular. But it worked if I needed an extra Spider-Man fix.

Joe, we may have started collecting at the same time!
One of my first comics was that MTU with Beast vs the Griffin.
I loved the cover to that Valkyrie/Meteor Man ish. (Was it by Gil Kane?)
I was 4 maybe 5.
Loved the annual too, with Human Torch fighting a giant robot
gorilla (?) The cover was lost at some point, I read that book so many times. -edit, maybe that was a S-M annual?

Another downfall of the industry. Marvel Team Up and Marvel Two in One were perfect compliments to the Ongoing Soap Opera's of Amazing Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four. These were stand alone stories that gave us glimpses into the greater Marvel Universe as a whole. Did we really need MTU replaced by Web of Spider-Man.
The quick looks at interactions of other Marvel Heroes were all I ever needed. Until I too got sucked up into the Cross-overs and Mega Events. Now it seems any attempts to do a similar style book comes across as ho hum coulda done that in the regular book.

Lars, to answer your question, Gil Kane did do the above cover to MTU #34. FYI: Samruby.com is a great resource for Spider-Man comics. You can find detailed information on every Spider-Man comic ever publised (And in the shameless plug department, I regularly contribute back issue reviews from the 1960s and '70s to the site).
Good call on Web of Spider-Man, David. It really served no purpose that wasn't already being met by Amazing and Spectacular. It struggled to find an identity and, for the most part, wasn't particularly interesting. I wish they had kept Marvel Team-Up around instead of introducing a third solo book.

I loved MTU! As a kid, I followed that book (as well as the DC team-up titles) more closely than I did the solo Superhero books, since the self-contained team-ups were more accessible if I happened to miss an issue. The book was my introduction to quite a few Marvel characters, such as Wonder Man and Ghost Rider.
My earliest MTU was one of JB's: # 75, the Power Man team-up in that burning building.
I even liked MTU's short-lived experiment with Hulk team-ups in 1980-81 (three issues, plus one of the annuals).
The last year or two of the run was mostly average, but it was still one of Marvel's most 'fun' books for better than a decade!

I remember an issue of Team-Up that had Iron Man and Spider-Man battling Blacklash that was the first time I'd ever seen a book deal with the idea of super-villain as "loser". Yet it managed to tell the story without making Blacklash into a joke that jaded readers are supposed to laugh at.
I'd contend that books like Team-Up, Two-In-One or Brave and Bold are where creators really showed their stuff, because there were so many hoops you had to jump through in telling a story.

I. LOVE. TEAM-UP. BOOKS!
Particular favorites for me from MTU were the ones with Yellojacket and the Wasp. I love JB's Yellowjacket! Neat story, too!

The WRAITH saga introducing Jean DeWolf is one of my most prized comic possessions. I still remember buying them off the rack waiting for each now installment.
I was kinda mad when the WRAITH got knocked of by SIN EATER awhile back.

Spider-man/Red Sonja might be the best issue of that run.

I agree.
Killer book by Claremont/Byrne/Austin.
