I would have to add to the list of those who never should have been killed

Hal Jordan

Barry Allen

Kraven

And anytime they knocked off an Averager.

I felt it would have made the story that much more impacting in the long
run if they had left her dead.

••

So did I. That's why, after Chris brought Phoenix back for the 347th time, I
felt no qualms at all about restoring Jean.

I'm right now reading the X-Men Companion #1 (thanks, Ted!), and in an
interview from right around Uncanny X-Men #150 Cockrum mentions that
Phoenix might be coming back. About a year after she died, and less than a
year after JB left the series.

Discounting her recent death in 2004, she's only ever been killed once.

Cause people have been complaining Jean's died 20202020 times when she only ever died once.

Then when Grant killed her he had the White Queen say:"She's been dead so many times!". Well she's still been dead less than the White Queen, cause techinically prior to Grant's run she only ever died once in 20 years. So there~

It's ridiculous to be annoyed at it but it's so innacurate that it just bugs me. :]

As I recall, her first comeback was in X-MEN/TEEN TITANS, which was
published in 1982, barely 2 years after X-MEN 137.

Should add to Martin's comment, tho -- retcon or not, unless something
has happened since I left, Jean had not died at all if
the Death of Phoenix is the "only time" before Morrison killed her.

Glad you are enjoying it, Andrew.

Guardian and Elektra are the two best deaths for this reason:

The only deaths in comics should be those characters killed by their creators.

Bucky is close enough.

Everyone else can be brought back.

Blue Beetle (the Ted Kord version) was a great character going back to the Ditko days at Charlton. It made me mad when he was killed off.

SPOILERS: It appears that Ted may be back from the dead. In the recent story arc in Booster Gold, Booster and three other Blue Beetles (original, current and future) go back in time and prevent Max Lord from killing him. However, the story isn't finished yet, so I'm not yet ready to say for certain "He's back!" FYI: Geoff Johns & Dan Jurgens are doing a great job with this series -- I would highly recommend it.
