Everyone here who has ever read any of my posts concerning the X-Men & Cyclops knows that I've been of the opinion that with the exception of JB's X-Men: The Hidden Years, I haven't seen Cyclops written in character since before his X-Factor days. Well hang onto your hats folks, I had to relutantly purchase a copy of X-Men: The Messiah Complex because it will be a topic on our next podcast, and I was stunned out of a month's growth! In this comic book Cyclops is written IN character, he's confident, commanding and he's the Cyclops I remember. I hope this is not a fluke but rather a return to the Scott Summers who was always my favorite X-Man, and they even call hin "Slim". If your a Cyclops fan I recommend it, and believe me gang, I don't do this lightly. It's the first X-title I've recommended since "Hidden Years".

It's about time! Michael and I were just discussing the terrible misuse of Cyclops a few days ago.

Now, if they would just get him out of that scuba wetsuit he's sporting, and back into his proper costume....

Of the costumes Scott has been shoved into since I last handled the
character, the "wetsuit" is the least offensive. At least it's practical, and
doesn't look like it was designed by some comicbook artist trying to be
"cool".

Yes, I never liked the 'open-hair' design or anytime he's been given pouches and straps.  The one thing I don't like about modern versions of his outfit is the silver visor (or when it's made too small). I really like the earmuffs too!

There we must agree to disagree! Before I left UNCANNY, I had persuaded
the Powers that Were to let me put Scott back in the original visor. That he
had learned to control his new power level was to be the justification. I even
did a couple of convention sketches reflecting this.

I actually personally quite like the wetsuit. As with Greg, I never liked the costume with the visor and no hood. I like the full hooded look.

Still trying to figure out the function of the straps on his torso and legs and why he's got not one but two straps on his gloves, not to mention what look like pouches on his belt.  The funny thing is, this gimmickry is simply added to the older design, sans skullcap.

Everyone always forgets that the first visor sans mask look started here, never cared for it myself.

As for his current "scuba diver" look, it's just ugly.

While I like some costumes more than others, they could put him in a tuxedo and I'd be happy if they wrote him in character again.
