QUOTE:
High attrition rate -- even in real time -- but supposedly the Surfer was Galactus' first herald, so we should not assume even more working backward from him! |

Apparently the Surfer wasn't the first herald. The "Fallen One" was. He was Galactus' first herald and had the power to manipulate dark energy instead of the traditional cosmic energy. He was "killed" during the first Annihilation series.
Not sure I care for the retcon, but I do find his power set interesting.

Giving Galactus a herald before the Surfer kinda diminishes Norrin Radd's "sacrifice", doesn't it? As many of you probably know, I am not a huge fan of the whole Zenn La/Norrin Radd/Shalla Bal retcon, but since it's been there for forty years, there doesn't seem much point in messing with it.

The Dark One looks like Surfer with a Michael Bolton hairpiece.

Some writers just love to leave their stamp on Marvel history with annoying retcons like these. The character itself is devoid of substance and has little personality, so the only way to make him seem important is to tell the reader that he was the first herald and not the Surfer.

It's an odd variant on coattailing. Like, after Doomsday "killed" Superman, it became shorthand at DC for lazy writers to say their characters were "Doomsday level" power. And, of course, the most recent TV iteration of STAR TREK was all about saying "Me first! Me first!"

JB, I am curious to see what you think of this anatomy
sculpted here:
On the sculpts right pectoral, does that look natural to
you? My take on this is that the figures right pectoral
should be flatter, especially compared to the figures left
pectoral that is flexed and compressed. What do you
think?

Shots from the next two waves of DCU Classics:
Out of this wave, the non-robotic Mantis and Wildcat are must grabs for me. Iffy on Guardian and Deadshot, but I'll probably be picking those up as well.

And out of this one, I'm definitely getting the Question, Deadman and (Green) Steppenwolf. Katma Tui's a possible.

What do you guys think?
Editted to Add: Why does this figure look so much more Kirby than the 'Kirby-style' DC Direct figures?

Randy Bowen is asking for our input concerning some forthcoming Spider-Man statues. I'm all about the Romita Sr. inspired, but a lot of folks seem to like the more modern pose....
