I honestly can't understand Mike's thought process here. He must know that this story WILL get out. You can always deny saying something, but there is no hiding from this. The timing is also incredibly dumb, right before a major con.
The net may be large, but the comic community, especially the art collecting comic book community is small.
I absolutely will NEVER buy a single product with G*****'s name on it until he does right by Gerry and the others.

Wow.... I'm amazed at the lack of professionalism by Michael Golden AND
his agent. Especially his agent. SHE is the liaison to the client/buyer and if
there's a problem delivering in a timely fashion, its her responsibility to
notify and find an adequate solution for the customer.
That said, the commision itself.... misspellings AND a $400 increase to
slap some marker lines on a sketch? I must be missing something there....
The Golden sketches that have been showing up here and at the CAF have
been quoted at $100, and THAT'S all you get for the extra $400. Wow! I
want that gig!
He's one of my favorites, but I would even consider giving him my $$$$.
Now, JB on the other hand has shown remarkable consistancy in every
commission I've seen here. WAY WAY worth whatever it being paid for
them... AND to volunteer to offset Gerry's pain and suffering by adding to
his commission is beyond that call of duty!
I astounds me the bad rap that JB continues to get....

Horror stories like Gerry's remind me how lucky we are to have Jim Warden working with John. Warden is the best

Andy: Great story. Glad you got a sketch out of him and he and his agent didn't weasel out of it.

I'm one of those "weird kids" that never paid attention to any of the bullshit Bad Byrne stories. I prefer to craft my own judgments from my own experiences.
*gasp!*

Interesting that, with all of the talk here and at SDCC, there hasn't been any
damage control by either Michael or Renee.

I received my piece today. A Micronauts One Minute Later. Guess what, Baron Karza has his back to the team and is instead looking at the viewer saying "Patience is a virtue, Mr. Finn." $765 to get Baron Karza lecturing me.
That is all I am going to say for the next few days. I will take the high road and hope that Renee offers up a solution. If one isn't forthcoming, I will take additional steps.

Wow.
I never imagined Golden would be stupid enough to pull this with somebody else! Totally mind-boggling!
He's officially ruined his career in commissions...and maybe comics as well?

You know, I've watched enough court shows (Judge Joe Brown rocks!) to know this:
a. The document Gerry received saying that there was no contract is meaningless. If you pay someone money to do something, you've got a verbal contract right there. Gerry was given written documentation that the art would be done in a certain amount of time, and that amounts more or less to a written contract. Most judges would laugh a "there was no contract" defense out of court with that kind of evidence. You can't change the terms of a deal after its been done unless BOTH sides agree to it.
b. I'm pretty sure you can't tell someone you don't give refunds AFTER you have already been paid.
My advice would be for Michael to post the artwork he received (if he has a scanner or knows someone who does and will let him use it) at the same places what happened to Gerry has been discussed.... especially at CAF and Newsarama, and for anyone else who gets any "patience is a virtue" artwork from Golden that was supposed to be done months ago to do the same.

It sounds like time for Mr. Golden to get back on the meds.
I'm really sorry this has happened to you Michael. I can't tell you how sorry it makes me feel. I used to REALLY like this guy because of his pretty pictures.
Now he's just a bully and a scam artist.

Chris, It's a giant isopod also known as a sea louse! ( A big fat louse being the operative concept here!)
It's kind of like a really big ocean dwelling pill bug(aka: sow bug, rolly polly).

A little bit.

Michael, don't take offense to this, but I have to assume you're joking until I see this with my own eyes.
I just can't fathom that anyone would be self-destructive enough to pull this more than once, especially on such expensive commissions. I mean, the negative publicity generated by the first drawing and subsequent discussions must have already seriously damaged his earning potential. But this???

Mike,
You are KIDDING, right?
Wow, I am sure in his heart he thinks he is making a valid point and showing
his wit at the same time....but all he will end up doing is hurting his bottom
line.
I don't get it. Renee should let him know that this is not going well and to
make some type of restitution with the buyers.
crazy.

I think Michael Finn might want to wait until he tries to contact Renee before he posts it. I really want to see it too but he might want to give her a chance to fix things (QUICKLY!) before stirring the pot even more. The potential of calming things down a little just might serve as some incentive for Golden and company to do the right thing. Or maybe the right thing is to strike while the iron is hot. I dunno. I'm not much of a negotiator except where late model cars are concerned..

Don't misunderstand, I also think this is best handled through the proper channels first. I'm not trying to get Michael to post the picture (despite my desire to see it!). I just can't (or don't want to) believe it!

Martin: I've seen the scan privately. I can confirm that it is exactly as Mike described it. "Virtue" is spelled correctly this time around, for what it's worth.
