Wow. Gerry and Ed I don't know what to say. I've personally never thought that Golden was a great artist and now I don't even think he's great human being. You both deserved to be treated professionally.
I'm saving my dough for JB. Golden can go fly a kite.

I was hoping of getting a Michael Golden commission, and now I have to rethink everything. JB on the other hand has a very proffessional setup with Jim Warden, and will be seeing more requests from me in the future.

Contact Renee again. You managed to get through to her directly once before, so you may be able to do so again. If you can, try to make arrangements with her to return the piece. Demand that they not only refund your money, but that they also cover the shipping costs of sending the piece back to the U.S.
If Renee really didn't see the piece and was really not aware that it was sent out to you, I can't imagine that she wouldn't sympathize with your situation.
At the same time, just to cover yourself, if you paid by credit card, contact your credit card company and find out what can be done about disputing the charge.
Oh--and cherish the art that you'll be getting from JB! That's a helluva gesture on his part.

As someone who doesn't have commission-type money anytime in the near future and thus has no experience with this type of thing, I have a question. Is it pretty much standard practice among most artists that you are expected to pay for the artwork before it is completed? That seems pretty back-assward to me.

As soon as I get my piece, I will post it here and on CAF.
So everyone knows, I have a theme called 1-Minute Later in which I ask an artist to redraw a published cover but have the action done 1 Minute Later. JB did one of the most terrific pieces in my collection.
I asked Michael Golden to do Micronauts #10 and described the scene that I desired. I will let the world know what kind of drawing I receive. I am crossing my fingers but seeing how he treated Gerry, I fear the worse.
