Afternoon everyone,

Looks like the original cover art to the great Batman vs. Hulk treasury by Garcia-Lopez is for sale on ebay right now (I am not associated with the auction).

Quick question for JB, just wondering if you were ever offered any of the treasury jobs at the time. Considering that most of the original treasury works were from DC, I would guess no, but wanted to ask.

Thanks.

Tho my star was ascending fast, at the time the Treasury Editions were being done, it had not climbed quite to the point where I would have expected to be offered one. (Tho I did start planning BATMAN & CAPTAIN AMERICA, only to see it "wiped out" when DC got rid of Earth 2.)

JB mentioned a few months back that he turned down the chance to draw the X-Men/New Teen Titans crossover.  I'm not sure if it counts as a Treasury Edition, though, since it was printed at normal comics size rather than the oversized format the other intercompany crossovers used.

My 5 year old son just found my copy of this.  It loos like the Hulk was pasted over the original "dainty" footed Hulk.

I never had a chance to read any of these Treasure Editions featuring M & DC cross-overs but they must have been the bee's knees for the kids back in the day.

Still...I'm pretty sure even at a young age I would have wondered why they pitted Batman against the Hulk? Besides the obvious popularity of the two characters it seems like a horrible mis-match.  Wasn't this before the time period when everyone and their Aunt May could whip Galactus?

These stories have been reprinted recently (in TPB form) in four volumes of the "Marvel/D.C. Crossover Classics".

The first volume includes the original Superman vs. Spider-Man story (which undoubtedly blew the minds of comics fans in 1976), the aforementioned Batman-Hulk story, a second Spider-Man & Superman story from 1978 and the X-Men/Teen Titans crossover.

This is on my "must have" list - as soon as I read some stuff already on my bookshelf, I'm picking this one up.

*******
I think it was due to the characters being well-known at the time.
After Superman and Spider-Man, everyone knows Batman and the
Hulk. ( i believe the Hulk TV show was airing at th time too!)

Those Treasure Editions were a favorite of mine during my childhood.

-C!

P.S.- i actuall thought Spider-Man going up against Superman was a
little unfair!!!

Ah wow...

I'm watching that auction. What does anyone think the piece'll sell for?

I had the paperback reprint copy as a child. I still have and treasure that little book. It would be nice to see it in large format.

Garcia-Lopez's artwork is gorgeous.

I can't find the original thread but someone posted wondering why neither you nor George Perez drew the X-Men/New Teen Titans crossover.  I mentioned that Marvel and DC alternated the creative chores for crossovers in those days.  This particular one was Marvel's turn, creatively speaking.   Perez was exclusive to DC at that time and was thus unavailable to draw it.  You then posted saying, "And I said No, thanks!"
