I stumbled upon an older interview with John Romita Jr. and it reminded me
of the recent topic of the inner worlds of comics pros and some of the
things JB has mentioned about JrJr:

John Romita Jr interview on Newsarama

If the interview is any indication of his work and personality, I can see why
some people say he's a great guy. It's really nice to hear all the things he
says about his Dad. I can't imagine living in that shadow and how hard that
might have made things. It seems the two of them turned it into a positive
experience though.

JRjr is one of the best ever to work in the Biz.

Definitely the best of those who came in after me.

I've loved his work for a very long time.  Everything I've ever read by or about him strikes me that he's a great guy away from the drawing table as well.  He's one of a handful of artists who I will buy everything they do sight unseen.  Rare for me in this day and age and speaks volumes about what I think about him.

He's coming to a convention being held here June 1-3, but unfortunately I'm not going to be able to attend, and I was hoping to get a sketch (if he does them) or his autograph on the issue of Amazing Spider-Man where Peter proposed to MJ.

I hope he comes back next year.

One of my favorites, second only to JB.  I think that as artist go, he's the best story teller working. I've seen his pencils make some weak stories very enjoyable.

JRJr. is in my top five of all time favorites. Like Matt said, I'll buy anything with his name attached. Super nice guy to meet in person. Brian he occassionally does con sketches. He did this one for me a few years back.

Artwork aside, two things strike me from this interview:

1. JR Jr. seems like a heckuva good guy.

2. JR Sr. sounds like he is an even better father than he was an artist - and that's saying something.

He's definitely one of the five best working today. By far.

Guy got me to guy that awful Bruce Jones Hulk and the JMS Spider-Man (only
the issues he drew). I thought his Thor work with Jurgens was one of the
best series I've had the pleasure to read published in my lifetime.

He is my favorite Marvel artist.  I buy everything he does.

Relax, I'm not going to post my pics of us together again.

From the interview (work ethic, anyone?):
ROMITA JR: Yeah, for instance this morning I got up at 4:30 to get to the
desk early because I knew I'd be going out to dinner with my parents
tonight. Whenever that happens, I anticipate that happening, I get up early.
But I try to go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week, I try to work Sundays, and I
try to put in during the week, I try to put in 8-10-12 hours a day and on the
weekends put in 3 or 4, whatever I do on the weekend is cake unless there's
a deadline arriving. But I would say I start definitely every day by 10 and
finish by 8 or 10 at night.

I have great respect for the Romita Jr.

I would love to see him tackle some DC stuff.

I saw him last year in Chicago and the guy had the gun show on display. He looked like he was ready to challenge Lou Ferrigno. The man has to go to the gym more than 4 times a week.
