....to read a comic that is.  I've always been envious of the guy whose wife or girlfriend enjoys reading comics with them.  Yesterday was my chance to join this exclusive club.  The family and I were out and about and I stopped at my LCS to pick up Shazam and the Monster Society of Evil.  I've heard good things about this book, especially how it was a book that kids could read.  My wife picked it up and began to read it.  I was filled with both excitement and dread, because I knew that there was a very real possibility that my wife would put down the book and ridicule me for it.

In the end, she just said that she was deeply, deeply disturbed.  Not sure what she means but I am sure that I don't really want to know.

(I loved the book, BTW).

Buy her one of the FABLES trades - 99% of the time, it works every time.

Yeah, I thought of that.  I've got FABLES: Animal Farm, but I think that some of the mature content that Vertigo allows would really bother my wife.

I would recommend Sandman trades, starting with Dream Country and then
Season of Mists.

My wife hasn't gotten into anything continuity heavy, and I can't say I blame her, but she's really been enjoying the new Doctor Strange mini-series, DC's current Mystery in Space, and the Sandman TPBs.

The Amazing Screw-On Head

It's either the best or worst first comic possible.  Yes, I'm using you for a guinea pig.

I was a little disturbed by the bum who terrorized Bill Batson and physically beat him. Maybe that's what she meant?

My wife has no interest in comics--no Sandman, no Fables, no Leave It to Chance. However, she is somewhat intrigued by the original art I occasionally purchase; she'll comment on whether she likes the look of the page. If she doesn't like it, I don't buy it.

I would also recommend the Wonder Woman trades by George Perez and
John Byrne.
