My wife teaches high school, and I worry about her safety regardless of how often these things happen.

I live in a nice, quiet community in California, and some sick nut has been planting pipe bombs at a couple of the local parks here, including 3 last week at the soccer fields where there are dozens of kids all day during weekends.  The need to hurt/maim/kill a child is about the worst thing I can imagine.  I haven't let my kids go outside the front of my house to play without supervision in several days, let alone around the corner to the playground.

And don't forget there was also some type of gun-related incident at a Vegas area school today, too. As someone who's working toward his Master's degree in edcuation and will soon be out and about amongst area schools, the situation sure is sobering.

You are more likely to die in a plane-crash than you are to get shot in a school.  And you're more likely to die in a car-crash than die in a plane-crash.  It's just that every school-shooting and every plane-crash get their own individual publicity.

That said, this story is obviously screwed up and tragic beyond belief.

But people expect to die in cars. Hmm.. That's not right.

Yep on the I-15 exit for US395 in California there is about 4-6 Fatalities a year.

Lot harder to hide a car down the back of your pants, believe me.

I know people in Lancaster County, PA.  In fact, I was there just last summer.

Our local high-school here in Michigan had some teenagers arrested last week because of a bottle bomb in the restrooms.  Nobody was hurt, thankfully.

It's scary to think that things like this can happen.
